Halloween Fun at Wellington Country Park

Halloween may not be for everyone but for me it is one of my favourite times of the year. This is most probably down to the fact that my birthday is the next day and I always loved to celebrate it as a child with a Halloween themed party.

Even now, each year I decorate the house, buy pumpkins and get the treats in for the trick or treaters. As Halloween tends to fall inside or just after half term it is gradually turning into a larger event and that is absolutely fine by me!

I have an annual pass for Wellington Country Park and am very familiar with all they have to offer– for more information on the attraction and for details of their prices please do refer one of my previous posts. I tend to visit the park most weeks and try to make an effort to make it up there when an event is on – during the summer we made it to their pirate-themed weekend and we also love their inflatables events. Having a country park like this right on our doorstep is such a bonus especially if you love outdoor play as much as we do! They never fail to deliver and Halloween is no exception as you will see…

Halloween at Wellington Country Park

Every October half term they celebrate Hallo’welly’ween and when we visited we had such an enjoyable time that I thought I would share it with you all.

The first port of call for us had to be the face painting as we had a very eager five-year-old with us. We entered the party hut to find it brilliantly decorated and with plenty of arts and crafts tables. There wasn’t much of a queue for face painting and the young girls who were doing it were all very lovely, sweet to the children and very good at what they did. Jake refused to go for a spooky theme and opted for a bumblebee… only my child!

The list of activities throughout the day included panto shows, clown shows, stories, pumpkin carving and the spooky train.

We popped into the pumpkin carving tent to see how others were getting on with theirs. There was a cost of £2.50 to purchase a pumpkin and tools were provided to carve your spooky face. As I had already had two at home and the children would have probably taken all afternoon to do them we chose not to join in with this activity. If they were a little older we would have definitely had a go though.

One of the shows featuring both of the entertainers was on inside the big red tent at 2:15pm and we certainly couldn’t miss that. Jake doesn’t always have the patience for shows, even when we saw Justin Fletcher in the summer at Paulton’s Park he became bored part way through, but these two clowns (Peteza and Big Foot) had him laughing his head off! They used what I thought was a bit of chuckle brothers humour and even I was chuckling along.

After the show, it was time to hop on the train. It is a normal feature of the park with the route usually being surrounded by woodland creatures, scarecrows, fairy houses and doors, gnomes and dinosaurs. Whoever was in charge of dressing this for Halloween deserves a huge well done. I visited last year and it was nowhere near as spooky as it was this year. Sound effects, smoke machines, skeletons, pumpkins, huge cobwebs and fantastic displays… if that was a night train for adults I think I would be pretty scared!

We can never come to Wellington without popping down to the farm and even this area had a pretty impressive Halloween display. Shame Jake kept trying to move all the well-placed pumpkins there!

We wrapped up the day with a play at the park and a visit to the dinosaurs – one of Jake’s favourite parts of the Country Park. As always there just aren’t enough hours to do everything the park has to offer.
