The events of the past few years have sadly taught us all a powerful lesson about how valuable our health really is.

While we may have learned how to live alongside the effects of a global pandemic, we can still make conscious efforts to boost our overall well-being in any way we can. If you’re keen to adopt a healthier lifestyle in 2023, here are some wellness-boosting habits that you should definitely consider adding to your routine.

Don’t Neglect Your Regular Health Checks

Many of us may feel that we don’t need to keep up to date with routine health screenings if we don’t feel unwell. However, the truth is that we can start to develop some potentially serious health issues without even being aware of them. As a result, it’s a good idea to schedule regular check-ups, especially as you get older.

For instance, to make sure you’re keeping on top of your heart health, you can organise a heart check-up in London with the Expert Cardiologist clinic. Their experienced and friendly specialists will make sure that your ticker’s functioning the way it should and that there are no warning signs of damage or disease.

Move Your Body

We all understand how important it is to get enough exercise. But, for many of us, fatigue from long working hours (often followed by hours of housework and caring for our kids when we arrive home) leaves us too tired to get active.

However, despite the limitations of our hectic schedules, it’s important to carve out some time in your daily routine to move about. Just 20 to 30 minutes of exercise a few times a week can help to improve your physical and mental well-being. It may be a little onerous to start off with, but once you develop the habit, you’ll find you feel so much better for it! Find an activity that you really love, that makes your cheeks flush, and your eyes sparkle, and, hopefully, you’ll soon find that exercise becomes something you look forward to, rather than just another chore.

Eat Less Meat And More Plants

While we may be devotees of Sunday roasts, sausages and mash, and the Full English, the truth is that if we’re really serious about our health – and the health of the planet – then we should make a concerted effort to reduce our intake of meat, especially beef.

Introducing more plants to our diet (ideally 30 a week, according to experts) will give our gut health a welcome boost, as this kind of diet will make sure that all of your gut microbes are being nourished. Those microbes are essential to our well-being, so feeding them with a wide variety of plants will have a positive knock-on effect on our entire bodies – and our minds too.

Keep Calm And Carry On

Our 21st-century lifestyles have a lot to answer for when it comes to the impact on our mental health. Rates of mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression have skyrocketed, causing sufferers all kinds of unpleasant physical and mental symptoms.

To help you keep your mental equilibrium, it’s important to make quality time for yourself every week, to rest, relax, and do things you enjoy. Creative activities, such as dancing, drawing, writing, or cooking, can help you enter that calming ‘flow state’ that allows you to forget about all of life’s stresses and strains, providing a welcome measure of peace and fulfilment.
