Do you love travelling with your kids? Then you must find perfect destinations that accommodate kids. Greece is a fun place to visit with kids. Greece is also really accessible from the UK and Europe with regular short flights and easy-to-book airport transfers that will get you to your accommodation simply and safely. Greece is well known for its plentiful islands and beaches, but did you know that it is also rich in culture and family-friendly activities and educational trips suitable for kids?

Let’s explore some of the best destinations in Greece that are ideal for kids, such as Naxos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Santorini and Mykonos. We will also explore fun things to do at the said destinations.

Milo Island

Milo Island is a kid’s paradise, as many activities will excite your children.

Activities to engage in with kids include:

Visit the Beaches

As it’s common with all travellers, leaving Milo without exploring the many beaches would be a crime.

Sarakiniko

It wouldn’t be a trip to Milo without visiting Sarakiniko, a vast formation of stark-white rock formations on a beach with deep blue waters. Sarakiniko is the most beautiful beach in Europe, and people get the thrill of cliff diving.

Explore Plaka Village

This is a stunning village adorned with old churches, museums, and quaint cafes that allow you to sample Greek cuisine. The village is atop a cliff, thus offering you breathtaking views, especially in the evening.

Mining Museums

Milos was initially a mining and fishing town; thus, it was widely recognised for its rich mineral wealth. The museum preserves its artefacts, chronology, and anecdotes during that period.

Kayaking

Explore the Aegean Sea with a sea kayaking tour that allows you to explore the gorgeous cliffs, hidden beaches, and caves. Get a guide so as not to stay aware of the situation.

Naxos

Visiting the beaches

Being an island, Naxos has vast sandy beaches, and exploring them with your kids would hurt. Some of the best beaches include Agios Prokopios,  Plaka, Mikri Vigla, Agia Anna,  St Georges, and Kastraki Beach. And don’t forget you can swim with the dolphins and turtles.

Visit Old Town

During your family trip, if you want to experience Naxos authentically during your family trip, explore the Old Town. The Town has many winding cobbled streets. You also get to see the impressive Venetian Castle and enjoy breathtaking views. And remember to get trinkets for your friends back home from the gift shops and boutiques. And make sure to sample some of their street foods.

Visit the Ancient Landscapes

If your kids are into Greek Mythology, the Temple of Apollo should be on your itinerary. It’s a pretty easy walk and best taken in the evening when you can see the sunset and take some beautiful pictures.

You can also visit the Eggares Olive Press Museum to learn about the art of growing olives and making olive oil and jams. You can also visit the Temple of Demeter, which boasts too much of Greek history. However, this venture is suitable for older kids as you will have to climb about 100 stairs. However, you can also take a tour bus or rent a car.

Hiking

For those kids seeking adventure, you can take them hiking, as there are lots of trails ideal for beginners and experienced hikers. The most suitable hiking trail for kids is Mount Zas Trail which is about 5.6km and takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete. For ages 8+ why not look into hiking tours through Meteora’s Hermit Caves which will navigate you through unspoiled paths that offer the best views possible. Prepare to walk in the footsteps of Meteora’s earliest hermit monks and visit the caves where those devoted people decided to reside for many years. Your guide will tell you all about the fascinating tales and legends.

Crete

Crete is situated on the southeast mainland and is one of the largest islands in Greece. The island boasts beautiful mountains, stunning coastlines, idyllic villages, archaeological sites, and megalithic structures.

This volcanic land oozes charm and tranquillity suitable for adventure-seeking families as it offers unique experiences. And don’t forget the yummy and freshly sourced seafood and locally produced olive oil wine.

Swimming

There are many beaches in Crete where your kids can have much-needed fun. And this includes Elafonissi, Balos Lagoon, and Falassarna. And if your kids are great swimmers, you can go snorkelling or charter a clear kayak, venture out in the water, and marvel at the wonders of sea creatures.

Museum

Kids are curious creatures, and there is no doubt they’d have much fun in the museum learning about the history of the Greeks. Therefore, visit museums in Crete, such as Lychnostatis Open Air Museum, where your kids will learn about traditional Cretan life through their traditional buildings and artefacts.

You can also visit the Greek National Football Museum and Heraklion Archaeological Museum.

Aquaworld Aquarium and Reptile Rescue Centre

Kids are fascinated by marine life, so ensure they visit the Aquaworld Aquarium, where they see local sea life and reptiles.

Take a walk in the Botanical Park and Gardens

For a more relaxed and winding down activity, visit the Botanical Park and Garden. The park occupies about 20 hectares of land and contains trees from across the globe, herbs, medicinal plants, and fruit trees. You also see some animals, such as tortoises, peacocks, deer, and donkeys. Make sure to wear proper shoes.

Rhodes

Rhodes is one of the most popular destinations for those wanting to explore culture, history, and natural beauty. This Greek Island is home to various attractions that can be enjoyed by all ages, from families to couples or solo adventurers alike.

Fun activities for kids to do in Rhodes include:

Visit Lindos

You can start by visiting the Village of Lindo, situated on a hilltop and encompassed by a picturesque bay, St. Paul, and a pristine beach. This fishing village is popularly known for its history and natural beauty.

You can also visit the Acropolis of Lindo, an ancient ruin with several ancient structures, such as the Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, The Castle of the Knights of St.john and an amphitheatre. While here, you can marvel at the fantastic panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the fish village. The entrance fee is $9.64.

Being an ancient town, your kids get to ride donkeys as it’s the major form of transport.

Beaches

If your kids love water sports activities, they can try windsurfing, kayaking, swimming, wakeboarding, and kitesurfing at the various beaches. Other outdoor activities include mountain biking, trekking, horse riding, and jeep safaris.

Sampling Food

Kids love eating, so don’t forget to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine by visiting traditional cafes full of flavorful dishes and seafood delights. Sample the famous “taramasalata” fish roe dip created recipe passed down for generations. 

Waterpark

As we said, kids love swimming, and if you want to relax, take them to the largest water park in Greece, WaterPark Faliraki. It is located uphill, allowing you to take in awe-inspiring sea views while relaxing in the sun beds as your kids play on the water slides. Of course, this will have them worn out when you return to the hotel, guaranteeing you a night free of disturbances.

Petting Zoo

Kids love animals, so visit Farma of Rhodes Petting Zoo, where your kids can play and feed lovely animals, such as donkeys, ponies, ostriches, and goats.

Astronomy Café

The Astronomy Café is a kid’s dream as it allows them to marvel at the wonder of the sky as you eat and drink. They have an observatory with a telescope where you view the different planets and stars. And the images are so vivid. It’s best to book online as there is a queue and the sessions are about 30 mins. The staff at the café are friendly.

Corfu

Corfu is a serene Mediterranean gem located off mainland Greece. The island is beautiful and boasts mountains, lush landscapes, olive groves, historical & cultural monuments, and clear blue crystal waters. The most popular place to visit in Corfu for families is Corfu town, where you can see old buildings, churches, and fortresses.

Visit the Beaches

It would only be a visit to Corgu if exploring the beaches, such as Agios Spyridon, where you can book a boat tour to explore the famous caves. Other beaches include Agia Triada, Alipa, Lagrotta Bay, and Agios Petros.

Paleokastritsa Monastery

This monastery is dedicated to the Holy Virgin, a stunning building standing firm on a hill that overlooks the Ionian Sea. It’s the perfect place for kids who love history. While here, you can buy their homemade honey and take in the beautiful flowers.

Aquarium of Corfu

Don’t skip the aquarium; your kids will be amazed by the marine life, such as eels and octopuses.

Palace and Museum

If you want to know the history of Corfu, then take a tour of the Achillion Palace and the Museum.

Aqualand

Even with the beaches, kids love water parks. So take your children to Aqualand Corfu Water Park for a day of fun and splashing. The best part is it has sections for kids of all ages, and kids below four years get free entry. Book your tickets online.

Cruises

Book a day cruise with your kids or other families and explore the nearby island. This is the best if you want to island hop.
