Review | Personalised Rustic Wooden Pet Bowl Holder From BoutiqueGifts

Border Terrier sat next to her rustic wooden pet bowl holder

If you currently follow my blog, you’ll know that we welcomed a gorgeous Border Terrier pup into our family in October 2020 after losing our previous Border, Molly, at the grand age of 18. We hadn’t planned on getting another dog but our home just felt so empty. We were so lucky to find Tessa, she was perfect for us and that was clear from the moment we first viewed her. Needless to say, over a year on, she is one of us. She adores the boys, she is so much like Molly in many ways and just so incredibly loyal.

Pet’s for us are family. They aren’t just an animal, they are included in our everyday lives and with dogs that means coming with us almost everywhere we go. It also means they are (ahem) very well looked after – yes, she sleeps on the bed and gets lots of cuddles all of the time and yes, I talk to her like she’s another child… So, of course when BoutiqueGifts asked if I would like to review a Personalised Wooden Rustic Pet Bowl Holder from their website I jumped at the chance to treat her.

Rustic Wooden Pet Bowl Holder Review

First Impressions

The first noticeable thing about the package on delivery was how light it was. I was expecting the wooden pet bowl holder to be quite bulky and heavy but it isn’t at all which is very handy for lifting, moving and cleaning. On opening, I was not disappointed. The wood really does have that lovely rustic effect and having Tessa’s name personalised onto the front between the 2 pawprints looks so incredibly sweet. I also like the fact that the holder sits on 4 feet which have cushioned pads, which makes it slightly more raised and of course means it won’t mark your floor.

Tessa personalised Rustic Wooden Pet Bowl Holder

I opted for the XS size in this rustic wooden pet bowl Holder as Tessa is a dinky Border Terrier and the description stated that it was suitable for small dogs, cats or rabbits. Measuring at 36.5x14x7cm in the holder and 13cm x 5cm in the metal bowls it is just right for her and also for the space in the kitchen too.

I do love a metal bowl for feeding as they clean nice and easily and are extremely robust, I also love the fact that the top of the holder is protected with a waterproof lacquer which means the wood will not spoil. When you choose an item like this, you definitely want it to last your pet.

Using The Rustic Wooden Pet Bowl Holder

One of the main draws of this holder and bowl set was the fact it is slightly raised and the bowls can be kept in place when feeding Tessa. She is a bit of a one for pushing her bowl round and round as she eats which isn’t great for her digestion, it means she has to work harder to eat, we end up tripping over her and her bowl is never found in the same place when it comes to picking it up for washing! In fact when you research the benefits of dog bowl holders the list includes comfortable eating position, better posture, aids swallowing, slows down faster eaters, keeps feeding area clean and is better for an elderly dog who may be arthritic.

Tessa eats 2 small meals a day so the metal bowl is the perfect size to hold her food and the other can hold her water.

She wasn’t too sure about the holder at first, she couldn’t quite understand why her bowl wasn’t moving and took to using her paw to drag her kibble out! However, it didn’t take her long to get that it was better to have a meal standing still and that her new bowl feeder wasn’t something to be scared of. I stayed by her to reassure her, to show her the food, to hand feed her a little and encourage her to use it. Dogs are so intelligent, it never takes them long to catch on.

I’ve found the bowls to be easy to clean, the wood hasn’t been marked at all even with a few water spills plus the holder looks lovely in our kitchen, really neat, tidy and aesthetically pleasing.

Overall Thoughts

The rustic pet bowl holder is not only handy but it is also stunning. The craftsmanship that has gone into it is clear to see, I love the fact we had it personalised and I also love that it is UK made and by a small company. This will last Tessa years to come and be used every single day so it is a great investment. The holder I chose is currently priced at £39.99. The website has a really handy tool that allows you to view your holder with your chosen name before you buy so you can see what your order would look like. I always like touches like this from a company, it shows they have really thought about the customer’s shopping experience.

If you like to shop small, shop in the UK and love handcrafted items then BoutiqueGifts is the online store for you.
