Finding an eco-friendly deodorant that works well, continues to work throughout the day, smells nice and can be easily applied can be a really tricky task. I should know, I have looked for years! When I first began to make sustainable lifestyle choices around 8 years ago, eco deodorants were a big topic. We started to see more and more new brands come to market, and it seemed as though everyone was giving them a go. And so, I joined in thinking I would find the perfect deodorant straight away – how wrong I was! I suffered through damp patches, sticky products, clothes staining, smelly pits, sore pits, constant reapplications and desperately trying to get through that “transition period” others told me about. After spending out quite a bit of money, I finally settled on Wild (you’ve probably heard of them) and they were my reliable eco brand for years… Until they sold out to one of THE MOST unethical companies around.

And so, I was back to square one. Back to testing out eco-friendly deodorants and anti-perspirants and battling the same issues as before (some worse this time, too!) But, just as I was about to give up, The Natural Deodorant Co. dropped me a message. They told me all about their product and asked if I would like to give their Natural Deodorant a try (with no obligation to post). That was July 2025 and I can now say that we are all ongoing loyal customers, so I thought I would write a review on The Natural Deodorant Co. and share the products we use and why I think this is the BEST eco deo around.

About The Natural Deodorant Co.

The Natural Deodorant Co. was founded in 2015 after the owners couldn’t find a natural, eco-friendly deodorant that would work for them (a common problem, as you can see).

“The natural deodorants we tried may have ticked the natural box, but sadly a lot was left to be desired in terms of how effective they were. We found ourselves reapplying the product multiple times a day and had no confidence that we would be able to interact in polite society, worrying when body odour would strike.”

Once they mastered their recipe, they were onto a hit, one that quickly made its way into well-known stores such as Holland and Barrett, Whole Foods Market, online refill shops and Planet Organic as well as independent eco shops across the nation. The Natural Deodorant Co. now offers a wide range of scents, product options and sizes.

First Impressions

The first thing I noticed about the product was the outer packaging – well presented and cardboard. You’ll also be pleased to hear that most of their deodorants come in a glass jar with an aluminium lid (other options are available in all aluminium tins). As somebody who is always battling against plastic, I do love an eco company who steer well clear of this type of material. Yes, plastic can be recycled, but not infinitely as other materials can be.

the natural deodorant co products that were sent to us

I asked to be sent a deodorant for myself and one for my husband (he was struggling to move on from Wild, too). The Natural Deodorant Co. sent me their Lemon and Geranium Balm and Rob their Clean Deodorant Balm for Men. At first inspection, we both loved the scents and the smooth look of the product itself, and we were very keen to try them out.

How to Use

I have to admit that I was a little reluctant to try a deodorant that requires finger application, as I had tried so many previously that had been messy, would melt in the heat and leave my skin greasy. However, The Natural Deodorant Co. ones aren’t at all like this. They have a thick and substantial consistency, not greasy or messy. The product is easy to apply and is absorbed very quickly, so even if you do have a small amount left on your fingertips, this isn’t a problem for long. They are also designed to be used sparingly so you’ll never have to use much. Just add a small amount to your finger, gently rub onto your armpits (do not use on broken skin) and you’re ready to go.

Scent

My lemon deodorant balm smells lush. It’s a gentle scent that leaves my armpits smelling sweet and summery. The men’s deodorant is much more subtle with a musky scent that is ideal for those who don’t want anything too overpowering.

The Transition Period

Neither of us encountered a tricky transition period as we had done with previous brands. Rob saw results from day one. He never had to reapply and his skin absorbed the product really well, leaving no wet patches or stains.

My skin took a little longer but I do also wonder if this is because I had experimented with several other brands in the months before and upset my body’s biome? I am also more on the go than Rob. He goes to work in an office, whereas I am home doing school runs, cleaning/tidying, running errands, working, walking the dog etc (I rarely stop), so at first, I was reapplying the Natural Deodorant balm late afternoon just to keep my natural (ahem) scent covered. But I didn’t see it as an issue, I didn’t ever notice that I was super smelly, just a touch of aroma was noticeable and probably only to me.

*I do have to note here that these are deodorants are not anti-perspirants which means they are designed to tackle smell and not sweat meaning you will always have some level of natural moisture in your pits and this will vary from person to person.

The Results Now

As I mentioned above, we are both now loyal customers of The Natural Deodorant Co. AND our eldest son is now too (they do a great teen deodorant). We have found that these deodorants last absolutely ages (8 weeks +), a lot goes an awful long way, they do not stain, they are easy to apply, and their coverage lasts both of us all day.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • UK made
  • 100% natural
  • Eco-friendly
  • Long lasting
  • Gentle on skin
  • Vegan and cruelty free
  • No white marks
  • Good range of scents
  • Their range includes clean balm (great for everyday use), active balm (higher strength for sporty people. Not suitable for sensitive skin) and teen balm plus they sell mini tubs for carrying in your bag.
  • You can send empties back for recycling (once you have 6) Find out more here

Cons:

  • Cost – the upfront cost feels high and could initially seem like it’s an expensive product. In reality, with this lasting 8 weeks+ it works out to be quite cost-effective but I have added this here because I know many people will see a price and write a product off.
  • Application with fingers – again I have added this here because not everyone will like this way of applying their deodorant although the brand does sell bamboo spatulas if you wanted a different way of putting their deo on.
  • Currently only one deodorant that states for men

Overall Thoughts

In my opinion, The Natural Deodorant Co. have come up with an amazing range of deodorants that are not only 100% natural and eco-friendly but also work. If you have been struggling to find a natural deodorant to work for you, I would highly recommend giving these a go.
