In 2018, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification increased dramatically from 296 in 2006 to 67,200 in 2018. This was proof that the need to adopt eco-friendly habits is of concern to most people across the country. However, apart from gaining certification from LEED, there are other ways each individual can take steps to be kind to Mother Earth. Here are a few eco-friendly ideas you can practice at home to do your part.

  1. Install solar panels in your home

Solar panels are essential features to install in any eco-friendly home. With this investment, you would be allowing natural and renewable energy to take care of your power and reduce environmental harm. Several households in North America have benefited tremendously from solar panels that they are increasingly becoming popular. The money you save could repay your loans and offer complete freedom with Debt to Success System.

  1. Invest in energy-efficient light bulbs

These eco-friendly light bulbs have been around for a while, but it was not until recently that more people began to understand its significance. Also known as LED light bulbs, these bulbs consume less energy to run efficiently. Compared to incandescent lamps, energy-efficient light bulbs have their efficiency rate ranging from 25% to 80%. Although people expressed concerns about the bulb’s inability to throw off enough light previously, technological improvements have addressed these.

  1. Think green when you clean

You may have been used to chemical detergents when cleaning your home, but did you know there are natural yet effective agents you can switch to? Bicarbonate soda, vinegar, and lemon or lime juices have been suitable alternatives for years. Also known as green cleaning, they are bleaches and bacteria-killing substances. These cleaning agents are better replacements for regular chemical detergents because they do not lead to contamination of water treatment plants; it makes it easier for the water to be purified and be supplied to houses for safe use.

  1. Compost your food waste

Today, it is relatively more comfortable and even cheaper to buy a compost bin for your home. In North America, some garbage collection companies offer them to households without charge. These bins convert your kitchen scraps and any food waste into compost. Over a period, you can use this compost in your garden to boost soil richness rather than use chemically formulated compost. On the other hand, if you do not own a garden, you can offer the DIY compost to friends or family or even start a small compost-making business. This strategy saves you or others the need to purchase chemical-based fertilizers, which may harm the environment in the long-term.

The apparent advantage of ecofriendly homes is their commitment to being consciously energy efficient. With the help of organic and renewable resources, they can protect the environment. Furthermore, with much talk about the ozone layer’s depletion, you may wish to consider reducing your consumption of traditional energy sources. It would also help if you paid more attention to greenhouse gases.
