Everybody is looking to reduce their carbon footprint and changing your mode of transport is one way to make a positive change. What’s more, eco-friendly transportation can be fun and many of the modes mentioned below are great for all the family.

Electric Vehicles

If the thought of giving up your car and the freedom it offers brings you out in a cold sweat, perhaps it’s time to make the change to an electric vehicle. Not only is this a great option for reducing carbon emissions, but it can also be a fabulous investment.

Bikes

If you enjoyed cycling as a child, consider getting on your bike again. Not only is cycling an eco-friendly mode of transport but it’s also a fabulous way to exercise. Whether you choose to use your bike for the daily commute or to ride off-road on a weekend, there’s little to rival the joy of speeding down a hill on two wheels.

Scooters

Both standard scooters and electric scooters are seeing a rise in popularity with adults, especially in cities and urban areas. Ideal for shorter distances, scooters are perfect for when you are travelling light and a fun way to bond with your kids.

Skateboarding and Rollerblading

For those of you who mastered skateboarding in your youth, up the pace by slaloming in and out of the crowds. Rollerblading is another fun way to reduce your carbon footprint and fit a workout into your day. Practical and people-powered, skateboarding and rollerblading are great for the adventurers looking to liven up the commute.

Walking

If you’re guilty of hopping into your car for the shortest of trips, why not switch some of your journeys for walks? Getting out in the fresh air is great for your mental and physical health and can help with productivity and focus, too. Whether you aim for 10,000 steps a day or start slow and build up your fitness, walking will benefit you as well as the environment. Double win!

Public Transport

Sometimes you need to travel long-distance and, in these situations, think how you can make the least environmental impact. Using public transport wherever possible is a good solution for helping reduce your carbon footprint and an easy lifestyle adaptation if you live in a city with good transport links.

Car Sharing

Why take two cars if you can use one? With a bit of planning and co-operation you may find you can car share with a partner, colleague or neighbour who is travelling in the same direction. Nowadays there are even entire platforms dedicated to car sharing schemes, so this can make it even easier if you haven’t got friends or family to rely on. Not only is this a wonderful way to reduce your carbon footprint, but you can also develop relationships and spend quality time getting to know those around you better.

Reflecting on the impact your transport decisions have on the environment shows care and consideration for the world around you and future generations. Have fun with how you travel and add variety to your life by getting creative!
