How to Get Your Pink Back After Raising Children

If you’re a parent to young children, you may be familiar with the phrase, ‘get your pink back’. It refers to the time when your sense of self is overshadowed by becoming a new parent and navigating the often-challenging postpartum process.

The phrase draws inspiration from flamingos, which can lose their vibrant pink coloring while raising their babies, only to regain their brightness and vibrancy once they start looking after themselves again. If you’ve been in the trenches of parenthood and want to start getting your pink back, here are some things you can try:

Address Something That Brings You Down

Physical changes aren’t uncommon after welcoming a child into the world. Still, not all mothers are happy with what they see when they look in a mirror. Even if you’re still busy molding your children into wonderful little humans, don’t be afraid to set time aside to address a physical attribute that’s affecting your confidence.

For example, you might research strength exercises to tone your body or hire a personal trainer to help you with postpartum weight loss. If you’re serious about regaining your confidence and pre-baby body, you may even see the value in researching cosmetic surgery options. Some mothers even opt for ‘mommy makeovers,’ which are plastic surgery packages consisting of a tummy tuck, a breast lift, and liposuction.

Return to Your Old Hobbies

Raising children can consume your days. For many parents, it can feel as though there isn’t any spare time for the things they love doing, like reading, arts and crafts, or participating in a team sport.

As you start the process of getting your pink back, carve time into your busy schedule for your old hobbies. You may be surprised by how refreshed you feel when you do something for yourself.

Prioritize Your Physical Health

Taking care of young children often means your own needs fall by the wayside. For example, you don’t always get quality sleep when your child wakes in the night, and you can be less likely to eat well when you’re busy making sure their nutritional needs are met.

As a parent, you’ll never stop putting your child’s needs first. However, prioritizing your physical health means you can give them the best of yourself. Try to improve your sleep hygiene with a supportive mattress and purchase healthy ingredients you can transform into nutritional snacks for your entire family. Minor changes may make a world of difference.

Create a Support Network

Whether you’re in the newborn trenches, battling the terrible twos, or getting your child prepared for school, you deserve to have a support network at every stage. The more people you have around you for help, the easier it can often be to feel like yourself.

Turn to friends, family, and your spouse for the daily support you need. You can also reach out to a trusted professional if you’re struggling with your mental health. Don’t suffer in silence when you can create your own supportive village.

Getting your pink back after raising children might seem impossible, but it’s entirely achievable with the right support and information. Make small, meaningful changes to transform back into the vibrant individual you once were.
