Making any switch from something which you may have always deemed as convenient to something completely new may seem very daunting and confusing. Of course it does, we are all so used to our lifestyles being made “simple” by large companies and we are programmed to throw things away when they are dirty because it has been drummed into us that germs are bad. So, when we bring in a reusable product, something that can be washed and used over and over again, an item that is as simple as a flannel and water, we for some reason overthink it. I feel that I have covered so much on cloth/reusable nappies but I haven’t really mentioned our reusable wipes very much. There’s no denying that there are now many more eco products on the market and there’s also no denying that we are being told that these are one of the main ways to help the environment but is this truly the case? The answer from me here is mixed. Yes, it is great that we now have alternative options and if you’ve followed me for a while you will know I love a good, useful eco swap. However, I am very aware that there are also many products out there that we don’t all need and I think these are the ones that have almost given being eco a bit of a bad rep in terms of only being possible if you are privileged. I don’t like this view of it because I believe that helping our environment should be and is possible for everybody it’s just that these perhaps aren’t being spoken about as much as the products are being pushed? So here are my ways in which you can do your bit for the environment without breaking the bank…

As an eco-conscious person, I loved the idea of people saying no to all of the ‘stuff’ and making do with what they already owned and then I realised that this is exactly what our planet needs – more people choosing to do a no buy year. You see, once you eliminate the extra waste, the non-essential consumerism, the disposables, the need for wanting more, you are helping our environment as well as your own pocket and here’s how…
