If you’ve been starting to think about moving out into a new home, then you probably already know what an extensive process it can be. You have to consider your budget, find a real estate agent, and most importantly, think about what requirements you need for yourself and your family.

While you might not initially realize it, there are many different styles and types of houses, all with unique quirks and additions to choose from. In fact, there are so many; it’s easy to get overwhelmed and forget about what’s available.

In this article, we are going to discuss some of the house styles and how you can find what’s best for you. Sound interesting? Then let’s get started!

Apartment

Apartments are popular for couples and small families that live in cities and highly populated areas. They are part of a collection of units, which are all involved in the same structure/establishment. While there are some available to purchase, most of them are rentals with a landlord that monitors the property. Some of the pros associated with apartments are that there are often included facilities (pools, shared laundry, etc.), and repairs and maintenance are taken care of. Certain places may also include utilities in the final rental price.

Single-Family

Single-family homes are the most popular in the US. It’s detached from other houses and usually includes both a front and back yard, some with welcomed additions (pools, gardens, balconies, etc.). Generally found in the suburbs, they are typically described as part of the typical American dream. Alongside this, there are many different options for expansion and customization. It’s great for those that want the freedom and privacy to create their dream home and grow their family.

Community

A community is a group of homes (sometimes known as a village) that share the same geographical location. Most of them have a variety of different home options to choose from as well as shared facilities that are available to those living within the community. They are an excellent choice for those looking for a close-knit society.

Condo

Much like apartments, condos are suited to couples and small families that live in populated areas. However, they are available for purchase and don’t include any upkeep from a landlord. You are responsible for your own maintenance and any issues that occur, including those that arise with neighbors. It’s excellent for city-living and can be more affordable than other larger homes. Alongside this, there is less upkeep as you aren’t responsible for a yard or garden.

Ranch

Ranch-style houses are usually one-story with large windows and ample garden spaces. They feature open living areas that are great for large families with children. Outdoor living is also encouraged, with many facilities to promote gatherings and activities. While they are most popular in rural communities, it is possible to find them in several towns if you keep out a watchful eye.

Tiny Home

Tiny houses are a perfect choice for minimalists that are on a tight budget. They are so small that they can be portable and can be moved around to different locations. It’s one of the best living arrangements for those that want freedom and affordability. While they may not be very big in size, they often feature a variety of space-saving furniture to maximize space. You can even customize them to suit your needs.

Mobile Home

Similar to a tiny home, mobile homes also have the option to be transported; however, they are much larger. They are more affordable than other housing options due to their materials, and many are present in mobile home parks where the land is rented. If you don’t want to sell your home when you move, these can be a great option. However, they often aren’t as extensive as some of the other housing types on this list.

A mobile home can also be referred to as campervans or other vehicles that are used to travel around the country. While these are not often considered permanent homes, many individuals have made them their primary form of accommodation as they explore unknown destinations. If you want ultimate freedom, it might be something you should consider!

Townhouse

A townhouse is generally located in close proximity to the CBD and shares its walls with at least one other home. Instead of expanding outwards, they make use of vertical space, with most homes having around three stories. While the size of them can be generous due to this, they often include small gardens and have certain restrictions in place. For example, some areas forbid the exterior from being changed if it impacts the other owner’s residences.

Cottage

Cottages are known for their charming appeal and are a little bit smaller than the average family home. Today many use them for holiday/vacation homes; however, they are great residences for those with a smaller family. They often feature fireplaces and small porches and don’t usually have a second story. If you are looking for a home that is more affordable and full of character, then a cottage might be the perfect choice for you.

Cabin

Last on the list, a cabin is very similar to that of a cottage but with a much more rustic aesthetic. This includes a log-built exterior, fireplace, and of course, plenty of greenery. They are often in very rural destinations and are used primarily for weekend getaways and hunting trips. That being said, some individuals love being connected with nature and the privacy that a cabin can offer. If you’d like to find more properties within your area you can check out Cobb County GA property listings which will allow you to filter and select the types of homes you are looking for.

And that’s it! These were ten different housing styles to help you decide what is best for you and your family. While it undoubtedly a big decision to make, it’s important to look at the facts and think about your future. You also need to consider what is available in your current location, and of course, review your budget.

Good luck!
