How to Successfully Sell on Vinted

Selling on Vinted can be a really fun and rewarding experience as well as very lucrative if you get it right. However, I see time and time again some great items being posted with little effort being put in, descriptions being almost non-existent and poor-quality photos – sometimes just one blurry photo. Listings like these don’t attract the views and will leave your item(s) hanging around on there for months on end. If you want to make an impact and make selling on Vinted work for you, read on for my tips on becoming a successful seller…
1. Prepare Your Items for Sale
Imperfections
To increase the chances of your clothes selling, it’s important to address any imperfections prior to listing them. Take some time to mend holes, fix hems/stitching, attempt stain removal and improve the overall quality of the material. For instance, purchasing a lint remover to remove the bobbling on the fabric will make a big difference to the overall look and feel of the clothing. If you are selling shoes, why not check how much repairs would be at your nearest Timpson’s, it may turn out to be a good investment.
Wash and Iron Your Clothes
Once you are happy with your items it is really important to make sure they are clean. No one wants a dirty, smelly or mucky item arriving, do they? Wash your clothes carefully, wipe down items such as lamps, polish shoes and so on.
I see so many wrinkled clothes on Vinted which always immediately makes me think that the items haven’t been well cared for and so I will personally always scroll on by. It only takes a few minutes to run an iron or clothes steamer over them and by doing so you will immediately be helping to show your item off and draw in more views.

Display Your Items
Now that your items are ready, you need to think carefully about how you are going to display them for your photos. Choose your best hangers (wooden always looks nice), if you own a mannequin this is a great way to show how an item looks on or if you feel comfortable being photographed wearing the clothing/shoes then this is also a good option. Shoes could also be placed on a stand and furniture items should be dressed as they would be used. A cushion thrown on a carpet doesn’t look good, show the size, seem hygienic or give the overall feel of how it would appear when in use.
2. Take Good Quality Photos
Use Good Lighting
Another way of ensuring that you’ll grab a shopper’s attention is by taking all of your photos in good light. Natural light really is the best option, the orange glow from a light bulb can alter the true colour of your item and cast shadows, so try your best to take your photos near a window during the day if you can. If natural light isn’t available, use bright, white lights like a ring light to illuminate your items.
Choose the Right Location
The background of your photos should be clean and clutter-free. A plain wall/door or a tidy, neutral space works best to show off your clothing items. Avoid busy or distracting backgrounds that can take the attention away from what you are trying to sell. Even though people are buying secondhand, they want to see that these items have been cared for.
Take Multiple Photos
One photo just isn’t enough. Not only does this let your listing down by not showing the item off but it also looks as though you couldn’t be bothered which doesn’t give off a good vibe. Vinted allows up to 20 photos can you believe? Definitely use this to your advantage. Take multiple pictures that will show the front, back, and sides of your items as well as close-ups of detailing and any imperfections they may have. This gives buyers a comprehensive view of the item and will help them to make informed decisions.

Choose The Cover Photo Carefully
Your cover photo ideally needs to show the item in full. When someone is sitting on their phone scrolling the app, they are drawn to what they can see and if they are confronted with an image that doesn’t look like much, they are more than likely just going to scroll on by. Make sure you choose your best photo for the job (leave any blurry photos out).
3. Write an Effective Description
Be Detailed and Specific
A detailed description helps your buyers to understand exactly what they’re purchasing. Try to include information about the brand, size, material, colour and condition of the item. You could also mention how the clothing or shoes fit, any unique features they have and how they have been cared for as well as how many times they have been worn. Don’t forget to add if it is a pet-free or smoke-free home.
Be Honest
Transparency is key. If your item has been altered or if there are any signs of wear/tear, mention this in your description. Buyers really appreciate honesty and it will help to prevent any issues or bad reviews further down the line.
4. Price Your Items Competitively
Research Similar Listings
To get a good idea of where to start with pricing, look at what similar items are selling for on Vinted. Pricing your items competitively will help to increase the likelihood of a quick sale. If your item is in excellent condition or is a sought-after brand, you can price it slightly higher – just make sure you show this off in your photos so yours stands out from all the rest.
Be Open to Negotiation
Some buyers expect to negotiate on price so you could consider setting your price slightly higher than your bottom line to allow room for a haggle to happen.
5. Engage with Buyers
Respond Promptly
If you respond quickly to questions or negotiations you will be showing your potential buyer that you are active and attentive, which can increase their confidence in purchasing from you.
Be Polite and Professional
Good communication can lead to positive reviews and repeat buyers so always try your best to be polite and professional especially if you use Vinted to sell on a regular basis.
6. Shipping Your Items
Package Securely
Ensure your items are packaged securely by using appropriate packing materials to avoid damage during transit. Think about the protection they will need from being thrown about and also from the rain. You should also consider adding a note or small thank you gift for a personal touch.
Ship Promptly
Ship items as quickly as possible after a sale is made. Prompt shipping leads to satisfied customers and positive feedback.
Additional Tips for Success
Utilise Vinted’s Features
Take full advantage of Vinted’s features, such as promoting your listings or participating in forums and communities. Also check all of their tip sections within the app. This can increase the visibility of your items and attract more buyers.
Trends and Seasonal Wear
Keep an eye on current fashion trends and try to list items that are in demand. Trendy items or those that are in season (i.e. swimwear in the summer, Christmas jumpers in Nov/Dec) are more likely to sell quickly and at a good price.
Be Patient and Persistent
Building a successful selling profile on Vinted takes time and effort. Be patient and persistent and work to continuously improve your listings and customer service. Think of yourself as a small business.
