If you would like to make sure your home is as eco-friendly as possible, keep reading for our top 4 tips!

Choose more sustainable products.

One way you can make your home more eco-friendly is to choose more sustainable products when you shop. The good news is that many options will allow you to do this now.

One such option is to choose more energy-efficient appliances when our old ones need replacing. It’s also a good idea to buy toiletries and cleaning products as refills as this saves on wasted packaging. You can even find truly innovative products on the market now like candles where the wax is sustainably sourced and non-toxic when burned.

Swap curtains for blinds.

Not enough people realise that making the swap from curtains to blinds can make your home more eco-friendly too. This is because blinds do a really good job of insulating the entire window. This in turn helps keep heat in the room meaning you’ll use less energy to stay warm.

You certainly do not need to make any style compromises when you choose blinds either. Indeed, with providers offering all patterns, colours and styles like Roman Blinds online, you really are spoiled for choice. This means you should be able to find blinds for your home that you love easily.

Be mindful of your water usage.

Water is also a resource that needs to be used wisely. This is because not only is there not enough water in some locations but the collection and treatment of water uses up a lot of energy as well. That is why it’s crucial that we do not end up wasting water

One option that can help us preserve water in our home is to swap from baths to showers. Just be sure that they last less than 5 minutes to save on energy. Also getting any leaky taps or pipes fixed can help. Another way you can use water more wisely around the home is to collect grey water for washing and then use it instead of clean water to wash your car or water your plants.

Minimise your food waste

Last of all, one of the biggest threats to our environment is the massive amounts of food waste that households and businesses all over the UK generate. Indeed, currently, we generate a massive amount of food waste every week, which is primarily made up of uneaten leftovers and food items that are bought but don’t end up being consumed.

The good news is there are many things we can do to reduce food waste in our homes and the wider community. One is to set up a composting bin so any scraps can be placed in there to eventually nourish the food we grow in our gardens rather than in landfills.

Another option is to plan your meals every week. This leads to shopping with intent and will produce less food waste overall. Lastly, making use of services like Too Good to go in our communities can help food from being wasted, and allow us to get a great value treat now and again too.
