As an avid walker, having the right products, equipment, and clothing is incredibly important. I always want to be prepared, be dressed correctly for the weather conditions and of course, feel comfortable – nobody needs a blister ruining their hike! Because of this, I will always spend a long time choosing a walking boot that is cushioned, wide enough for thick socks and foot swelling, supportive and fits well. And for years, I have had the most perfect pair. They have been used for dog walks, on trips around the UK, they have walked me miles in the Lake District, come along to view the amazing sights in Austria, and they even helped to get me up Ben Nevis this July. However, they are now beginning to show a lot of signs of wear and tear, with the biggest issue being that the insole is no longer as cushioned or supportive as it once was, which has been leading to foot pain. Being the thrifty, sustainable-minded person that I am, I really didn’t want to throw them away and buy new – there’s definitely still life in them – so when PCSsole asked if I wanted to review a pair of their insoles, it really couldn’t have come at a better time! I instantly got to work testing my chosen insoles out, and I have really put them through their paces to bring you my honest review.

About PCSsole

PCSsole is a brand that set out to make foot care more accessible after the founder, a biomechanical engineer, had watched his friend suffer with foot pain over a long period of time. After years of experimenting and refining designs, the drive to find a practical, affordable solution eventually turned into the PCSsole range of orthotic insoles.

Each PCSsole is carefully made and checked by hand, using 3D modelling to shape the material so it contours naturally to your foot, giving proper arch support, cushioning your heel, and absorbing impact as you move. Interestingly, the design is inspired by something called the catenary curve (it’s the shape a hanging chain makes), which helps to distribute pressure evenly across the foot and supports your posture from the ground up.

The brand are also focused on sustainability and state on their website that they are taking strides in reducing waste at every stage during production. Their products are built to last, which also means that they will not need to be continuously replaced like other types of insoles. On top of this, certain PCSsole products, like the gel sport insoles, have an OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification, which means the product is free from harmful substances and is made with chemicals safer for both human health and the environment.

PCSsole Review

PCSsole have a fantastic range of options, including hiking, running, everyday, pain relief and heavy duty. I opted for the Universal Arch Support insole to help with the problems I was facing with my walking boots, and also so I could switch them out to other shoes if required.

This type of insole boasts the following benefits:

  • Deep Heel Cup for Stability and Shock Absorption
  • Targeted Relief for Plantar Fasciitis
  • Advanced Support for Flat Feet and Fallen Arches
  • Anti-Odour and Breathable For All Day Freshness
  • Non-Slip Design
  • Universal fit – can be cut to size and will fit a wide range of shoes

First Impressions

The insoles arrived in a cardboard box, which was unfortunately a little battered from the delivery, but thankfully, the product itself was completely intact. I really liked the colour choices and the clear information on the back, which includes details on size, trimming and cleaning – yep, you can even wash these insoles! On removing the PCSsoles from their box, I was really surprised to feel how sturdy and well-constructed they were. A pretty good start.

Testing The PCSsoles

I removed the original insoles from my walking boots and slid the PCSsoles inside with no issues; the fit was perfect. I then did a quick test around the house to check the positioning was right and to make sure I would find them comfortable enough for a nice long dog walk. Boxes were ticked, so I headed out. I have to admit that the change in feel, especially arch support, did take some getting used to at first, but once the insoles had been walked on for a bit, they softened and I adjusted to the new sensation. I had just been so used to my old, very flat, worn-out insoles.

After a few local walks, I took my boots with their new insoles out on a better hike, and by the end of it, I could really feel the benefits. My arches weren’t tired and achy, my recent leg/knee injury felt so much better (walking has been quite tough for a few months – since the Three Peaks attempt) and at no stage did I feel as though I needed to take my boots off for some light relief – something that I had been doing a bit more recently.

I have now been testing the PCSsole Universal Arch Support Insoles out for a few weeks and I can honestly say that they have made a huge difference to my walks/hikes and my overall foot health.

You do need to give them a little time to soften, but once they have, they do exactly what they say, they support, cushion, relieve foot stress and provide comfort (well, these ones did for me anyway). I think the most noticeable benefit has to be the heel pad shock-absorbing cushion. When you are covering different terrains, this makes all the difference.

Choosing The Right PCSsole

What I love about their website is that it is really easy to see the benefits that each insole can provide for you, but also the level of support and arch height. So, say you want an everyday insole for a pair of trainers, you simply go to their menu, select every day from the drop-down, then take a look through the options that you think would be the most suitable for your needs. And if you still aren’t sure, you can take their handy quiz to help narrow down what you will need. There are a few products that cross over into other categories, which means you could also use them in different shoes for different activities. I don’t think I have ever seen such a wide variety of insoles before. Prices seem to range from around £28-£58, but at the time of writing this (October 2025), there are savings available. They also provide a 60 day money back guarantee if your insoles don’t work out for you.

Overall Thoughts

PCSsole is clearly a brand that cares. They have taken years to create a product that will help to alleviate aches and pains and provide a solution to an ever-growing problem. With their wide range of options, they have covered all types of footwear, and their website is incredibly easy to navigate. These universal insoles have made a big difference to my walks and have now extended the life of my walking boots, saving me money and preventing waste (something that is important to me). I would definitely recommend taking a look at what they have to offer and giving a pair a try.
