Review | JASÖN® Natural Care Shampoo and Conditioner

My hair has always been a bit of a challenge. Not only is it very fine, but it is also prone to grease and let’s not even list what pregnancy, breastfeeding and postpartum hormones have done to it! Even though I had my second child 3 years ago now and stopped breastfeeding him a year ago, I am still seeing a lot of changes in both my hair and skin which means I have struggled to find products that will consistently work for me. As an eco-conscious person, I was pretty determined to make a shampoo soap bar work for me but I think I have now spent 18 months experimenting and I still cannot find one that leaves my hair looking and feeling how it does with a normal shampoo. I have really persevered through some bad hair days, knots and a heavy feel but there are some things that you need in life in order to feel at your best and having good hair is one of those that is really important to me, but how can I still care for the environment by using bottled shampoo? This is where JĀSÖN® natural care is different.
About JASÖN® Natural Care
JĀSÖN® meaning “healer” in Greek was born in 1959 with their aim being to bring gentle, chemical-free, cruelty-free, biodegradable and family-safe products to the market. With many shampoos comes synthetic ingredients, chemicals, animal testing as well as a big environmental impact, JĀSÖN® wanted to avoid all of this but without compromising on quality. Each formulation goes through rigorous (human) testing and it takes their dedicated team of formulators an additional three or four months of testing after a formula is “approved” to ensure its safety. By production time, the products will have been tested for skin irritation, formula stability in a variety of temperatures, preservative testing, packaging compatibility and will meet FDA approvals.
“JASÖN® brand believes in the power of nature’s ingredients to improve everyday wellness. We were pioneers of safer, wholesome personal care, and we continue to harness the earth’s bounty of botanicals and essentials for blends that refresh and restore“
The JĀSÖN® shampoo and conditioner range offer a consumer safe, clean, vegan and nourishing products that can be used every day and with four haircare options— Strong and Healthy Jojoba, Moisturising Aloe Vera and Pear, Restorative Biotin and Smoothing Sea Kelp —there is something for everyone.
JASÖN® Shampoo and Conditioner Review
As mentioned above, I have very fine hair. It is also highlighted, it can break quite easily if not well looked after, it is still falling out from having children and I have been struggling with grease due to hormones. So, after looking at the range, I decided that the Restorative Biotin shampoo and conditioner would be the best option for my hair.
About Restorative Biotin
Featuring hair-strengthening Biotin, Pro-vitamin B5 and Hyaluronic Acid, this formula is designed to not only thicken your hair but to also help to repair split ends and prevent against future damage. Tests have shown that it can:
- Provide 2x less breakage
- Hair looks 2x thicker and fuller
- Can repair up to 72% of split ends
The Shampoo
I have now been using both the shampoo and conditioner for over a week so I feel I have a good amount of experience of it to provide some feedback.
The shampoo goes on really well and I promise you don’t need too much of this. It can be easy to think that you need more as it doesn’t foam up as your usual shampoo does but this only does that because of the addition of SLS (which is damaging to the environment). We are often convinced that this excessive foaming means that it is doing its job, but you really don’t need this to get clean hair. The JĀSÖN® shampoo works in the same way you just need to get used to that difference and a small amount works wonders. Work it in as you usually would, massaging the scalp and those greasy build-up areas then rinse well. It immediately feels clean and I haven’t felt the need to give it another wash as I know some shampoos can advise. The only thing that I didn’t like much was the scent but this is a personal thing, isn’t it? Others may love it. And as you’ll read later, the kid’s shampoo aroma is divine!
The Conditioner
The conditioner goes onto the hair really well and feels nourishing. If you are prone to having very knotty hair like me after a wash, take a comb into the shower with you and use this rather than your fingers. It will glide through far more easily, will help to prevent breakage and will help to work the conditioner in. What I liked about this was that it washes out easily and doesn’t leave any residue which I’ve found that a lot of conditioners can do.
Drying
I don’t know about you, but I find that the proof comes when you begin to dry your hair. If mine starts to feel heavy, greasy, slimy or takes too long to dry, I know that shampoo and conditioner haven’t been kind to my hair. Fine hair cannot take heavy products as it will just make it look greasy as soon as it is washed and what I loved about the JĀSÖN® products was that I could feel my hair was clean but also light and silky. Once I have finished drying, my hair sits beautifully and has a lovely natural shine to it.
Before and After
JĀSÖN® has this fantastic #JasonHairChallenge to show before and afters of your hair so that you can see how their products have taken and who doesn’t love a good before and after?!
“Share a pic of your hair before and after 4 week’s use of your choice JASON products on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #JASONHairChallenge including a snap of the products you used. Make sure to tag @jasonnaturalcare and you will automatically be entered with a chance to win a year’s supply of Jason Haircare!”
Before my hair was prone to grease, had dry ends and I was struggling with breakage.
After I feel as though I have soft and silky hair that has a lovely shine. I haven’t noticed as much falling out and I don’t feel as though I need to wash everyday anymore.
My hair after the very first wash:
A few days later and the volume is noticeable:
And a week later:
Overall I am really impressed. I was reluctant to go back to a shampoo in a plastic bottle but as I am always saying, nobody can be eco-perfect and the bottle can be recycled or reused if you choose to. The main draw here is that these products have eco-friendly formulas and that the company has an amazing ethos.
Kid’s Shampoo
The children were also sent a bottle of shampoo to try and I can honestly say that it is the best kid’s shampoo I have come across.
“JASON® Kids Only!™ Extra Gentle Shampoo is specifically formulated with extra-mild botanical surfactants to cleanse gently, thoroughly and in total comfort. Certified organic extracts of Chamomile and Marigold help calm and soothe“
First of all, it smells so good that you could eat it! (obviously don’t!) Which means the kid’s were both immediately very happy to try it. It goes on nicely, doesn’t cause irritation to their skin or their eyes and has left them both with silky, shiny, manageable hair.
Benefits: Safe, Bio-Degradable, No Animal By-Products, No Animal Testing
NO: Parabens / Phthalates / Petrolatum / Artifical colours / Harsh sulfates
Overall Thoughts
If you are looking for an environmentally friendly shampoo and conditioner and like me, have struggled with bars or have tricky hair to care for, I would highly recommend trying one of the JĀSÖN® natural care ranges. We have all been impressed with the way our hair has been left after use and even though it does mean having plastic back in our bathroom, I still feel confident that I am doing my bit for both the environment, the sea and animals. Being more eco comes in different forms and taking steps by choosing an ethical company is a great way of making a difference… Plus it helps that their products work!

Looks really good! I like their products
The last phot of your hair looks very convincing, that’s an impressive difference!
You can really tell the difference with the volume! I struggle with shampoo because my hair is greasy too but will have a look at this when I next need topping up!
Would love to know if these are curly girl approved too!
Hi Pat, yes I believe it should be ok as it doesn’t contain silicone
Wow!! What a difference! Great review. Found this via google whilst looking for a review on these products. You’ve ticked all the boxes on what I needed to know so thank you.
Ahh that’s good to know, thank you!
This looks great! Your hair is so shiny!
Thank you, it really has worked lovely on it
I completely agree with your point about the foaming effect created by SLS in traditional shampoos. It’s interesting how we’ve been conditioned to associate a lot of foam with cleanliness, but it’s reassuring to know that the JĀSÖN® shampoo still effectively cleans without it. Thanks for the recommendation – I’ll definitely check out JĀSÖN®’s range and consider making the switch to a more sustainable hair care routine.
