There’s something undeniably magnetic about Greece. Its rugged mountains, whitewashed villages, and sun-kissed beaches have long attracted travellers seeking more than just a holiday.

Whether you are drawn to its historic monuments or its idyllic islands, you’ll find yourself immersed in experiences that offer a unique combination of past and present.

Here are a few tips to help you explore Greece in a way that leaves a lasting impression.

Discover Greece’s Historical Treasures

Greece is a living museum, with every corner steeped in centuries of history. As you walk through Athens, the Acropolis will rise above you, a monumental testament to the ancient world.

Beyond this iconic site, the city offers countless archaeological museums and historic landmarks, each telling the story of a culture that shaped Western civilisation.

While in Athens, take a leisurely stroll to the Ancient Agora or visit the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Outside the capital, explore Delphi or head to the ruins of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

Experience the Diversity of Greek Islands

Greece holidays are often defined by the diversity of its islands, each offering a distinct slice of Greek life. From the vibrant nightlife of Mykonos to the peaceful charm of Naxos, the islands cater to every type of traveller.

Santorini’s striking caldera and the whitewashed buildings of Oia might steal the limelight, but don’t overlook less visited spots like Skiathos or Milos. Here, the beaches and landscapes are equally breathtaking.

Savour Authentic Greek Cuisine

Greek cuisine is an essential part of any visit, offering a variety of flavours and fresh ingredients. In the cities, you’ll find a range of tavernas serving classic dishes like moussaka, souvlaki, and tzatziki.

The real culinary delights can often be found in the smaller villages, where you’ll eat under the shade of olive trees, surrounded by locals.

Try a hearty Greek salad made with tomatoes, cucumbers, and feta, or indulge in grilled octopus at a seaside taverna. Don’t miss out on the chance to sample the traditional pastries, such as baklava and loukoumades.

Navigate Greece with Ease

Greece might seem like a maze of narrow streets, particularly in the old towns, but getting around is simpler than it appears. If you’re sticking to the mainland, renting a car is a good way to discover remote villages or visit lesser-known ruins. Sluta Leta Airport Office offers a wide range of choices which can be collected as soon as you touch down.

On the islands, ferries are an excellent option to hop between them, while buses are affordable for short trips. Public transport systems are reliable, but remember to check schedules ahead of time, especially during the off-season.

In cities, walking is often the best way to soak in the atmosphere. Taxis are plentiful but can be pricey, so use them sparingly. When it comes to getting around, a little preparation ensures a smooth journey.
