Your wedding day is the best day of your life, for many, it’s the day they have been planning for a long, long time. It’s an exciting day that you spend with all your friends and family, celebrating the love of your life. But your honeymoon as all about the two of you. Traditionally it was time spent getting to know each other, as you didn’t get much time to do that before the wedding. Now, however, it’s turned into a fantastic opportunity to spend time together while enjoying a truly fabulous holiday. Everyone has different ideas as to what a honeymoon should look like; a dedicated honeymoon suite which you don’t ever leave, an all-inclusive resort holiday with cocktails by the pool, a secluded villa out on an island, hiking through the jungle, or travelling between cities or countries.

With the world so accessible to everyone, why would you not want to take advantage of seeing some of its best bits with the person you love most? Travelling honeymoons have been on the rise in popularity over the past couple of years, and it’s easy to see why. But it does raise the question of where are you going to go? When you’re choosing one destination, you need to think about the hotel, the location and the things to do. When planning a travel honeymoon, you need to think about all of those things for each location you’re heading to.

Road Trip America

America has some amazing places to visit. If you want to see some of the most famous landmarks the US has to offer, then you should begin your trip in New York; see the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, and the Empire State Building, before heading to another state. Some of the other sights to see include Mount Rushmore and the Golden Gate Bridge. Speaking of San Francisco – this city is a great place to start any travelling. With the bridge and Golden Gate Park, this city is steeped in history and so full of culture; go visit the booming China town on the famous cable cars. If you want to, you can always take a trip to Alcatraz.

You can always travel America simply to experience all of the different cultures throughout the country. Life in Alabama moves a lot differently than those in Manhattan. And no matter where you go in the country, you are going to eat some of the most delicious food.

South America Trek

If you choose to head to South America you could choose to trek across Patagonia and take in a completely different side to this vast country. With stunning scenery, beautiful mountains, a range of wildlife and even stopover points, you can take a honeymoon to remember. Take a look at W-trek for more ideas and information on all of this.

Italy

A tour of Italy can be a fantastic experience. There is so much to see; historical sights dating back over 3000 years, the fashion capital of the world, one of the most romantic cities ever, and so many beaches, lakes and spas. Start at the top in Verona and kick off your honeymoon by visiting Shakespeare’s Juliet in her courtyard. See the famous balcony and add your message of love and hope to the walls encircling the space. Make sure you give the bronze statue a rub for good luck in love – what better way to start your married life? Head down to Venice and see the floating city at sunset from the relaxing recline if a gondola tour. Rome is your next stop, with lunch overlooking the Colosseum, then Florence to be blessed at the Santa Maria Cathedral.

Australia

Who can think of a travelling honeymoon and not consider everything our friends down under have to offer? For starters – the Great Barrier Reef. How amazing would it be to take a day snorkelling along the reef? It’s a fantastic opportunity, possibly once in a lifetime, and you would get to share it with your new spouse. While you’re in Queensland, why not pop down to Haver Bay for some whale watching, the Glasshouse mountains in Noosa, and go shopping in Brisbane? From there, head to New South Wales and kayak among dolphins in Byron Bay before visiting the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour bridge in Aus’s second-largest city. If your feeling up to a hike, then go and see Ayers Rock in the Northern Territory, then end your journey in the capital; Perth.

Europe

If you can’t decide on one European country to visit then why not see more than one? The great thing about Europe, and something the shocks Americans is how you can take a wrong turn and end up in another country. Everything is interlocked, and quite often the borders are indiscernible. Start off in Madrid, Spain and hop over to Nice in the south of France, then Venice and Rome in Italy, head up through Verona, into Vienna in Austria, through to Berlin, Germany, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, across to Paris, and finally into London, England.

Each of these cities offers something amazing and unique, from opera in Vienna, wine in Nice, and sights like the Eiffel Tower and Buckingham Palace. And the great thing is that you can very easily drive through all of these countries – even from France to England via the channel tunnel. The timezone difference is never going to be more than an hour or two, so no need to worry about jet lag, and, apart from England, everyone uses the same currency.

Indonesian Islands

One of the most popular travelling routes is through the Indonesian Islands. Through Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Bali, Borneo and New Guinea. There are so many fantastic things to see and do while experiencing some fantastic new cultures so different from our own. Travel into the jungles of Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan on the island of Sumatra or the wilds of Borneo. Visit Elephant sanctuaries in Thailand, and help out for a day or two, giving them baths and learning about the troubles they have been through. The main cities like Bangkok and Singapore (being a city-state) are homes to a huge mix of cultures and religion, no more so than Malaysia, and full of modern life. But if you explore past the city boundaries you’ll find the more traditional side of these countries, including their historical temples and prayer sites.

Whatever country you choose, have an amazing honeymoon!
