Stunning, Practical, And Safe: Creating A Garden That Is Child Friendly

Often there’s a conflict when it comes to gardening, and it’s between having an attractive and practical outdoor space and ensuring that this safe for the kids. However, you will be pleased to find out that it is possible to do both. A topic you can learn more about in the post below.

Water features

What is better is the hot summer sun that a gentling trickling water feature that cools the air and provides a relaxing environment in which to rest? Of course, it’s vital that you, make the right choice for your pond or water feature both in term of the aesthetics, the practicalities, and safety aspects.

Regarding practicality and aesthetics using one of the fibreglass ponds that are now available on the market can be a good choice, because it enables you to have any shape you want as long as it’s flat inside and provides longevity as well. Something that means you won’t have to replace the pond liner every few years at significant cost to yourself.

Although, it’s not just the base of the pond that needs attention if your garden is to be stunning, and child-friendly. After all, ponds can be a safety risk and to mitigate this is vital that you invest in a hardcover that means even if a little one does stray into the pound area they will not fall in.  

Cooking areas

Cooking areas are another favourite garden feature and can even be aesthetically pleasing as well as practical. To achieve this, you may consider constructing a decking area that can comfortably hold a BBQ as well as a table and chairs.

Alternatively, you may wish to invest a little more in this project and go for a fully kitted out outdoor kitchen. Something that has been popular in the USA for many years and is now starting to be seen in the UK as well. Just like in your indoor kitchen your outside cooking space needs to be as safe as possible. Therefore any decking should be coated with a gripping finish to prevent slipping when it rains.

Also building a childproof gate to an outdoor kitchen can help stop the little ones getting into the area where raw food and high temperatures are used.

Play areas

Lastly, if you want your garden space to be as practical for little on as possible, then it’s always a good idea to install a play area. This could be something as simple as single swing, slide, or sandpit, or it may be something more elaborate like a combined climbing frame, jungle gym, or playhouse.

Of course, if there is any climbing involved its best to look for rubberised matting to go underneath the features, so then if anyone does fall off, they will have a nice soft and safe landing.

Be aware that sandpits need to be filled with play sand and not the stuff that builders use as well, and they also need covers to keep them hygienic when not in use. If you want the list to be as safe as possible while playing outside, that is.
