Simba Hybrid Kids Mattress Review

As parents, we all want our kids to sleep well for both their well-being and our own and having been that parent who has lost a lot of shut-eye in the past, I know first-hand how tough it can be when you have a frequent waker. One of the ways we tackled my second child’s waking was by changing his bed and mattress – a simple change that worked wonders – so when my sister reached out to me about her daughter struggling to sleep in their new home, I suggested they try the same tactic. Waking at night can be attributed to many things, but if you can make their space comfy and cosy, you may well start to see an improvement. As a previous satisfied customer of Simba, I contacted them asking for advice, and they offered to send me their Simba Hybrid Kids Mattress to try out and review.
About Simba
Once a thread business supplying materials to a mattress company in Derbyshire, in 2002, Simba decided to take the leap and create its own mattresses that would help make a big difference to people’s sleep. Coming up with a unique way of using both foam and springs together, Simba developed the mattress they had long imagined. And having achieved that, they then came up with their own foam creation – Simbatex foam. An ‘open cell’ foam that allows thirty times the airflow of regular memory foam. On top of that (because they are continually working hard), their sleep scientists infused this foam with a naturally occurring mineral called graphite that helps to draw heat away from your body, providing you with the best night’s sleep you could ask for.
Why I Love Simba as a Brand
I work with Simba for many reasons – great customer service, a product that works, fast delivery, innovative ideas and the UK’s first B Corp™ sleep brand. This accreditation is only awarded to select businesses that promote both social and environmental change. B Corp puts companies through a rigorous process that looks at all aspects of a business, from a deep dive into the supply chain to reviewing their approach to ethical product innovation. A brand needs to score 80 or more to pass the B Corp assessment and Simba achieved an impressive 97.5! They have achieved this by offsetting their carbon and by making plans to be Net Zero by 2030. Their mattresses are UK made, they are heavily focussed on recycling, AND they refurbish mattresses that are returned to them.

Delivery and Packaging
As always, delivery was quick with a clear delivery slot provided via text and email. The mattress arrived vacuum-packed inside a cardboard box allowing for easy transportation whilst keeping waste to a minimum. Once opened, it is advised that you leave your mattress for around 3 hours to regain its shape. There can be a slight odour when a mattress has been packed this way but this is normal and does quickly fade. I would always recommend taking the mattress in its box to the room you need it in as it is much easier to carry before it has been expanded.
The Mattress
What makes the Simba Hybrid Kids Mattress stand out from other mattress types/brands is the fact that the sleep experts and scientists at Simba have taken every aspect into account when it comes to aiding your child into a peaceful night’s sleep. This Hybrid mattress is comprised of 5 layers including:
- Foam base
- High definition foam with edge support
- Unique patented titanium alloy Aerocoil® spring-comfort layer
- Fresher feel Simbatex® foam layer
- Super soft sleep surface, which can be removed for cleaning

“Children tend to move around in the night more than adults, and their shape and weight is always changing as they grow. Our kids’ Hybrid® mattress is designed to offer adaptive support and comfort thanks to our unique titanium alloy Aerocoil® springs and our CertiPUR® foam layers”

What’s noticeable about this mattress is that it is much thicker than your standard kids/toddler mattress BUT thinner than other Simba single mattresses. This makes it much more versatile, fitting to single beds as well as bunk beds or cabin beds and allowing for easy/safe access in and out for a child.

The Sleep Test
As I mentioned above, my niece had recently moved house and was struggling to settle in her new room. Her current bed was a toddler size with a very thin mattress that was lacking in padding. Now aged 5, she needed something far more substantial. As soon as she hopped onto her new Simba Hybrid, she was so excited. She immediately said how different it felt and how soft it was to lie on – a really positive start.

Another way of helping your child to enjoy their bed and bedtime altogether, is to get them involved with any changes that you make. We made sure to explain the new bed and mattress to my niece and she got hands-on with the switch from one bed to a bigger one and with unpacking the mattress. She then got fully onboard with the jump test, the bounce test, the lay down in every direction test… I left their house feeling confident that her sleep issues would be resolved quite quickly.
**Simba offer a 200 night trial to allow you time to get used to their products. If you aren’t satisfied you can return your mattress for free and get a full refund.
What I wasn’t expecting was for them to be resolved that night! Yep, come morning, I received a text from my sister telling me that her daughter had loved going to bed, that she had slept through and that her feedback for Auntie Emma was “my new mattress is perfect!”
Overall Thoughts
It has now been several weeks and she is still happy with her new bed and is adapting well to her new home and room. It’s amazing to hear that everyone is sleeping much more soundly thanks to this one small change. Simba continues to be our favourite mattress brand.
