An ever-increasing number of people are making changes to their lifestyles in order to live a life that minimises their impact on the environment. Research shows that over 40 per cent of consumers are mindful of the environment when purchasing goods. This demonstrates that being environmentally friendly is something that more people are working towards.

Changing your shopping habits is crucial to reducing your impact on the environment. If you are interested in being green the likelihood is that you already take an active approach to reducing your plastic consumption and proactively cut down on waste. Living in an eco-consciously way on a day by day basis soon becomes a new way of life. However, what happens when you need to clear out your home to declutter? Every so often, every home needs a declutter to free up space and to remove items that you no longer use. Even if you shop mindfully now, and work hard to reduce the amount of ‘stuff’ that you bring into your home, the chances are that you have still managed to accumulate many items over the years. This is particularly the case when you have children, as they seem to grow out of things so quickly. This need to declutter presents a brand new challenge; how do you declutter your home in an eco-friendly way?

Pass it On

So you have gathered together everything that you no longer need in your home, but what next? Well, the first step is to consider whether the items that you have could be of use to someone else. As the saying goes, ‘one man’s trash is another one’s treasure.’

You may decide to donate items to a charity shop, or perhaps you would like to sell them to make some money that you can reinvest in something that you love. Alternatively, you may know someone that would benefit from the items, such as a friend that has recently had a baby who may appreciate clothes that your children have outgrown.

Repurpose

It is always a good idea to think creatively about the items that you are getting rid of to see if they can be repurposed in any way. Upcycling is a satisfying way to breathe new life into old items such as furniture. There are many household items that can be repurposed, so it is definitely worth thinking about how something could be used differently before getting rid of it.

Responsible Rubbish Removal

Inevitably, there will be items that are not suitable to give away and cannot be repurposed. Instead of leaving this clutter languishing at home, you are probably keen to get rid of it but may feel unsure how to do so in a green way. It is possible to clear out these items quickly without them ending up in landfill. Look for reputable companies offering a Same-Day Rubbish Removal service and your items will be removed, recycled and disposed of in the most eco-friendly way, without simply being dumped in the landfill.
