Pranamat ECO Review – My Honest Experience

As somebody who has long suffered from aches and pains in my back and shoulders as well as debilitating aura migraines, I have tried many things over the years to help ease these. I’ve had sports massages, taken up yoga, seen chiropractors, used those electric hand-held massagers, and invested in different pillows as well as vitamins/supplements for my migraines. Some have worked, some not so much but when you live with pain, I always think solutions like these are all worth a try. One thing that HAS helped with both my back pain and my migraines is the acupressure mat from Pranamat ECO. I was actually sent a set by the brand way back in 2021 for a tryout and social media coverage and after 4 years of use, I thought it was about time that I shared a full blog review on this product. So here are my honest thoughts…

What is the Pranamat ECO?

The Pranamat ECO is a beautifully crafted acupressure mat designed to promote relaxation, improve circulation and ease muscle tension. It features hundreds of lotus-shaped massage points that work to stimulate pressure points across the body, mimicking the benefits of acupuncture but without the use of needles.

But they don’t just focus on human health, Pranamat are also passionate about the health of the planet and because of this all of their mats and pillows are made from high-quality, eco-friendly, non-toxic materials. The cover is crafted from 100% linen with colour varieties achieved by using natural dyes. The inside of the mat consists of a cotton cover filled with coconut fibre which is naturally resistant to dust, mould and odour. The pillow is filled with 100% natural buckwheat hulls and the massage points are fixed in place by using a thermal pressing technology (no toxic glue here) and are made from hypoallergenic HIPS plastic which is said to be the greenest plastic around. Pranamat stats state that it uses 43% fewer carbon emissions, 42% less water than other plastic types and 30% less energy during production. On top of this, all of their products are ethically hand-crafted in their own EU lab AND Pranamat has also been awarded The STANDARD 100 certificate by OEKO-TEX® which is a guarantee that they are free from harmful substances and safe for intensive skin contact.

Sustainability is a huge factor for me when choosing products and I love that Pranamat prioritises this. As you can see they have covered so much in their designs, from the materials used to their production process, even their packaging is fully recyclable.

Pranamat Review

First Impressions

The Pranamat arrived in a large cardboard box (sustainability tick!) which I did use for storing it in for the first couple of years until it broke so I would definitely say hold onto yours because it does make it easier for popping inside a cupboard.

When I opened the box and saw the mats and pillow in the pretty natural and lavender shades, I could immediately see and feel the quality of the products. However, when I first set eyes on the lotus spikes and then touched them, I was worried! They look almost like they could be rubbery but they are rigid and very spikey so the thought of mustering the courage to lie on these made me very nervous.

Giving The Pranamat a Go

Ok, I was brave, I went for it. What was it like? Ummm, yeah, uncomfortable just as I imagined, however, this quickly eased from a sharp pain to a warm, tingly feeling where the lotus spikes touched my skin and eased into my muscles. During my first try, I wasn’t aware that the Pranamat was working, I was too busy concentrating on this new sensation, it wasn’t until I came off the mat that I realised I felt different. Yes my skin was a bit sore but I felt relaxed, my head felt clearer, my muscles weren’t as tense – it was such a bizarre but fantastic experience. Over the years, I have adjusted to using the mat and getting on and off isn’t as painful as it once was (you need to balance out your body weight so the spikes don’t all hit one place), I have worked out which positioning of the mats and pillow I prefer and I no longer feel that shock discomfort because I’m used to the sensation and I know it is doing me good.

Oh, I feel I need to mention that your skin will be a little red, maybe a little sensitive and have marks from the lotus spikes but this will all subside shortly after so don’t worry.

The Benefits I Experienced

After using the Pranamat ECO consistently for those first few weeks, I started to notice some real changes. The biggest improvement was in my migraines, they actually became less frequent and less severe. In fact my head always feels clearer after use. My neck and shoulder tension also eased and I found my mobility was better.

An unexpected benefit I noticed was the fact that it helped with my sleep. I started to realise that if I used the Pranamat in the evening it really helped to chill my body and mind allowing me to unwind after a busy day leading to a better night’s sleep. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Other benefits listed on Pranamat’s website include a stronger mind, toned skin, energy boost and light legs.

Some Tips for Getting Started

If you’re new to acupressure mats, like I was, I would highly suggest easing into using the Pranamat. Start by lying down with a T-shirt and jogging bottoms on just to take the edge off that pinchy feeling and give yourself time to get used to the sensation. Only stay on the mat for a short period to begin with, building your time up on it over the first week. You’ll quickly learn what is best for you and what parts of your body need more focus. Over time, your body will adapt, and you’ll weirdly find yourself craving that deep pressure.

Costs

The set I have shown here is the full-body original which consists of the mat, pillow and mini mat and this is currently priced at £300. The classic set is the mat and pillow which costs £215 and they also sell a full set which includes a carry bag which is priced at £360. They also have variations with moon, turtle and love heart pillows. All come in a variety of colours and have a 5 year warranty and a 30 day trial period. You can view the entire range here. I know the prices do sound high but as somebody who has used theirs regularly for the last 4 years with no signs of wear or tear so far, this is a long-term investment for your well-being and it could well save you money on seeing a massage therapist, chiropractor or acupuncturist.
