Eco friendly materials and production methods have become an important issue in the supply and manufacture of horse rugs. The equestrian world is moving to a more sustainable option in this marketplace, hoping to minimize the impact made by the supply of these products. This will lessen the environmental footprint that the industry leaves behind.

Concerns about comfort and protection will not be ignored in the manufacture of the modern-day horse rug, but issues regarding the materials that are used in this process of horse rugs will be a hot topic. Recycled medium such as plastic bottles and organic fibres are to be the materials of choice when crafting these products. This is designed to reduce energy and water consumption in the manufacturing process, whilst not forgetting the packaging, becoming an eco-friendlier procedure all round.

The materials used in an eco-friendly manufacturing process can include bamboo, cotton or polyester. These are recycled or organic components. The polyester is used to create the outer fabric, lining and the insulation of a horse rug. Therefore, the product is made from leftover materials and diverts waste from landfills, reducing the need for new plastic production. Eco-friendly production can result in comfortable, warm and durable designs which win on all fronts.

Alternative medium when considering the manufacture of rugs is natural fibres like bamboo, wood or canvas. All of these offer a sustainable option which reduces the environmental footprint by limiting biodegradability and maintain a renewable nature.

These use earth-friendly components, while offering a robustness and strength, which doesn’t compromise on quality. Horse rugs, horse blankets, turn outs and flysheets are all capable of fitting into this manufacturing and packaging process, which result in a product designed to join the protection of the planet.

Beyond environmental benefits, these products offer durability and a lightweight nature as they are tested rigorously, and comfort is not compromised, as they enhance the riding experience and keep the horse warm in the process. Durability is not overlooked as sustainable horse rugs are designed to last long periods, encouraging customers and users to keep the rugs for long periods of time and therefore reduce the impact on the planet by not needing to replace, and also minimizing waste.

Fit and functionality should not be ignored as there are many rugs out there on the market which allow the horse the most comfortable experience. The models that on offer now can have detachable neck covers and versatile liner settings. You can consider eco-friendly arena footing materials like hemp which are not only sustainable but offer comfort and good traction.

Another consideration is an ethical one where fair labour practices and safer working environments are issues which are imperative for some of the importers with horse rugs on offer.

All things considered green equestrianism is a choice you make which impacts both the horse and the welfare of the planet. As more interest grows in all things equine you can play your part in this industry by becoming a green consumer.
