Tromsø stole our hearts during our first visit. We watched the Northern Lights (twice!), saw whales and the majestic fjords from a boat as well as all of the stunning Arctic wilderness, but there’s so much more we wanted to experience. We always said we would go back and the next time we do we want to take the adventure up a notch. From dog sledding to reindeer feeding, an Arctic snowshoe hike and further areas to explore here’s what we plan to do during our next visit to Tromsø.

1. Dog Sledding Near the Lyngen Alps

Dog sledding was something I really wanted to do on our first visit but as we only went for 3 days, there just wasn’t enough time. I’ve had a look and there’s a fantastic self-drive dog sledding adventure near the Lyngen Alps which offers an unforgettable hands-on experience with a team of huskies, full training provided as well as a campfire break with homemade cake and a hot drink which all sounds like an absolute dream.

2. Whale Watching in Tromsø

During our last trip, we did go whale watching and caught glimpses of fin whales and humpbacks in the Arctic waters, but this time, I’m really eager to see even more. Orcas are on the top of my list and I think we missed them by just a few days which was disappointing but now we know that November would give us a better chance of seeing them here, so, next time we book, we will need to go just a little later and hope that this whale-watching boat cruise will give us a better opportunity to see them.

3. Reindeer Feeding and Sami Cultural Immersion

I’ve always been fascinated by the indigenous Sami culture and their deep connection to the land and wildlife of northern Norway and I really want to return to be able to immerse myself in their way of life. Looking at bookable activities this reindeer-feeding experience will allow us to get up close with the animals whilst also learning about Sami traditions including their music, storytelling and sustainable lifestyle.

4. Minivan Tour of Senja and Kvaløya Islands

While Tromsø itself is stunning, there’s so much more to explore in the surrounding areas and we really want to make the most of another visit. I’m looking at booking a minivan tour of Senja and Kvaløya Islands, which are known for their dramatic landscapes and unspoiled natural beauty.

I’m particularly excited about seeing Senja, which is known for its jagged peaks that rise directly from the ocean, creating some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in Norway. Kvaløya, on the other hand, offers a mix of wildlife and scenic vistas which sounds like a great opportunity to see more of a variety of the landscape you find here.

5. Arctic Wilderness Snowshoe Hike

I’ve heard that Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to explore the snowy landscapes here, allowing you to walk through the untouched wilderness whilst enjoying the wonderful scenery. On this guided snowshoe hike you get the chance to trek through forests, climb gentle slopes, learn about the flora and fauna and so much more about this spectacular part of the world.

Tromsø truly is one of the most majestic places I have ever been to and I cannot wait to return on a future trip to discover more about this area and to experience it through all of these activities. Have you been before? Is there anything else you’d recommend doing in Tromso?
