5 Essential Items For Your Wardrobe

Building a wardrobe is not an easy task. Fashion moves fast, trends change and it’s difficult to keep on top of your own tastes with all these quick changes in mind – not to mention the money involved. It’s even harder if you’re not especially fashion-minded; how can you pretend to care about any of this, when all you want is a set of dependable outfits and items that look good, make you feel good, and last as long as they ought to.

If you feel like you’re floundering in your own uninspiring wardrobe, this article is very much for you. We’re about to help you build a versatile, modern wardrobe focused on practicality, longevity and everyday style more than trend-chasing and wanton expenditure. How can you build a wardrobe that feels as good as it looks – and works for your everyday, too?

1. A Well-Cut Blazer

One of the most essential items of clothing you can purchase for your wardrobe is, in what may come as a surprise to some, a blazer. Not just any blazer, though. This blazer needs to have a good silhouette, and needs not to be so ostentatious as to be a single-event outfit.

A structured yet comfortable blazer can elevate an extremely wide variety of outfits, from casual jeans-and-t-shirt daily wears to evening dresses, making it ideal as a catch-all for anything from in-office working to day-to-night styling.

2. High-Quality Everyday Knitwear

Knitwear is a criminally underrated part of any wardrobe, and far more useful than just as a warmth-protecting device in the winter-time. Don’t think about big, chunky jumpers (unless you want to, of course; they are phenomenal winter outfit items, after all!).

Instead, think about layering items, that can be used in conjunction with neutral tees to build interest and also provide some heat in the changeable weather to which we’re all accustomed. Merino wool is an excellent find for cardigans, but cotton blends can be a little cheaper. Both balance warmth and breathability.

3. A Pair Of Versatile Jeans

Everyone has a pair of jeans to hand, but do yours spark joy? Re-investing in a high-quality, flattering, and well-fitting pair of jeans can be crucial; jeans are your wardrobe anchor, around which a thousand outfits can be built. There are myriad cuts of jean, from straight-leg and cuffed styles to boot-cut and high-waisted 70s affairs. Which speak to you more? Build from there.

4. Comfortable Trainers For Everyday Wear

Footwear is non-negotiable, but again overlooked in favour of shinier wardrobe items. The trainer is now a socially acceptable form of footwear to wear almost anywhere, which works in your favour; comfortable trainers are a real privilege to own, and very easy to source at good prices first. Use your intuition to find a style that pairs well with your existing choices, including your dresses and your denim!
