Motherly duties are both rewarding and stressful at times. On top of fulfilling your own personal needs, you also have little ones to attend to. And, let’s face it, balancing these two facets of your life can be a real struggle.

With all these factors combined, it’s not uncommon for mothers to make certain sacrifices in their personal and professional lives. One such compromise is taking care of our skincare routine. While it’s important to nurture our skin and keep it healthy, we often let this fall by the wayside due to the limited hours of the day.

If you’re a busy mum struggling to keep up with your skincare routine, don’t worry. Here are six time-saving skincare suggestions that will keep your skin shining and healthy.

1) Use a Hydraulic Acid Serum

Motherly duties can take a toll on your skin health, causing you to age less gracefully, sag, and develop more wrinkles. If you want to combat this, you should start looking into incorporating a hydraulic acid serum into your skincare regimen.

Hydraulic acid is a type of acid that helps to stimulate collagen production and keep your skin hydrated. It’s also great for reducing wrinkles and fine lines. For best results, use a hydraulic acid serum twice a day, in the morning and at night.

If you want to go the extra mile, you may even opt to get a full-fledged hyaluronic acid treatment to improve your skin’s elasticity. This treatment works on the face, decolletage, neck, and hands. By taking this specialised treatment, you can stimulate the natural growth of collagen in your skin and look infinitely more radiant.

2) Use Your Sunscreen

Just because you’re not spending all day at the beach doesn’t mean you gain the free pass to skip sunscreen. The fact of the matter is that the sun’s harmful UV rays can still penetrate through clouds and glass, causing damage to your skin.

As a direct result of prolonged sun exposure, sunburn may occur. However, in the long run, skin cancer can be caused by unprotected sun exposure.

To protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays, apply sunscreen every day, especially if there are moments throughout the day when you’ll have to step outside like running errands or taking the kids to school. In addition to this, you may also want to use a firming lotion for a glowing summer skin.

3) Get Your Beauty Sleep

Beauty sleep is not a myth. In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do for your body, especially if you want to look energised the next day.

Getting adequate sleep helps give your cells ample time to recover and regenerate. It’s also the time when your immune system eliminates toxic waste that circulates your body and bloodstream.

Sleep is when your skin experiences rapid collagen development. During our state of slumber, cellular damage brought on by the sun’s UV radiation also gets repaired.

So, if you want to achieve supple and youthful skin, aim to get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night. While this may seem difficult for busy mums, it serves a multitude of purposes that stretch far beyond skin health that make it worthwhile.

4) Eat Skin-Healthy Food

While aging is inevitable and ultimately out of your control, what you put in your body is completely up to you.

So if you’re too busy to learn and experiment with complicated skin care products, you can make up for it by eating skin-healthy foods instead.

Skin-healthy foods offer the benefit of improving your complexion and supporting your skin’s natural protective functions. They may also be packed with antioxidants that can prevent inflammation in your skin.

Here are some examples of skin-healthy foods to include in your diet:

  • Watermelon
  • Mackerel and other fatty fish
  • Walnuts
  • Strawberry
  • Olive oil
  • Flaxseeds

Just as important as eating skin-healthy foods is avoiding bad ones. Refrain from eating processed meats, refined sugars, and white flour. These food items may lead to inflammation and breakouts, which are big threats to your skin’s general health. Additionally, incorporating the best vitamins for healthy skin, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin A, can further support your skin’s appearance and resilience.

5) Have A Facial Massage

Your face is one of the most delicate areas on your body and it’s constantly being put to work. As a result, it tends to develop wrinkles and fine lines over time.

One way to keep your face looking young and fresh is by setting some time to schedule a facial massage. Try to set an appointment with a practitioner and have them stimulate the various pressure points in your face—you’ll be sure to reap the benefits as soon as the first session.

Facial massage can help improve your skin’s elasticity, making it look firmer and more toned. It can also promote blood circulation in the massaged area, reducing the risk of inflammation and acne development.

6) Use A High-Quality Concealer

Some persistent skin problems just won’t go away no matter how many home remedies you try. If you’re struggling with blemishes, dark circles, or other skin concerns, don’t be embarrassed to invest in a high-quality concealer to hide your skin imperfections when you have to show yourself after months in lockdown.

Concealers are makeup products that can effectively mask blemishes, under-eye circles, and other skin imperfections. They come in a variety of formulas, but we recommend lightweight liquid variants as they don’t accentuate the skin lines.

When applied and blended correctly, these skincare products can give you the appearance of flawless, blemish-free skin.
