How to Modernize Your Bedroom
*Collaborative Post
Bedroom aesthetic trends are always changing and keeping up with them all can be difficult. It costs money, time, and energy to modernize a room, and most of us don’t have enough of these three things as it is!
You don’t need to follow every interior design trend that comes along. However, it is nice to modernize your bedroom every so often. If it’s been a while since you updated your accessories and furniture, it might be time for an upgrade.
If you want a modern apartment bedroom, you can easily find ways to update your aesthetic without spending a fortune. Often, modern interior design is associated with minimalism and it’s the small touches that make all the difference.
If you’re ready to modernize your bedroom, here are some top tips to help you achieve the aesthetic that you’re after.
Declutter Your Belongings
A cluttered bedroom will look more outdated and disorganized than one that has minimal clutter. If you want to modernize your space, declutter and get rid of unnecessary items.
Go through your wardrobe and take a look through your storage boxes to identify the things that you no longer need. Spend some time tidying away the clutter on your bedside cabinet and move the pile of washing from the corner of the room.
Update Your Furniture
When you’ve removed the unwanted items from your room, consider the furniture. Are there any unnecessary pieces of furniture that are taking up space in your bedroom? If so, give them to the charity shop or gift them to a friend.
Even if you don’t have any spare items to give away, you might want to update your existing furniture. Over the years, furniture can get scratched, worn, and outdated. Also look for items that could create storage space within your bedroom, for instance, a bed with storage space underneath, vacuum bags, baskets for shelves, built in wardrobes with efficient space saving ideas and so on.
To modernize your bedroom, treat yourself to some new pieces. Get a matching set with a wardrobe, set of drawers, and bedside cabinet to create a cohesive design throughout the room.
Refresh Your Sheets
One of the easiest and most effective ways to modernize your bedroom is to refresh your sheets. Old, worn-out sheets can make your bed look dated and uninviting. Investing in a new set of high-quality sheets can instantly elevate the look and feel of your bedroom.
When choosing new sheets, consider the material. Mulberry silk is an excellent option for a modern bedroom. This luxurious fabric is soft, smooth, and hypoallergenic. It also has temperature-regulating properties, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Mulberry silk sheets can add a touch of sophistication and elegance to your bedroom while providing a comfortable and restful sleep.
In addition to the material, you should also pay attention to the thread count. A higher thread count generally indicates a softer, smoother, and more durable fabric. Look for sheets with a thread count of at least 300, but ideally higher.
Get a New Headboard
As minor as your headboard might seem, it forms a central part of your bedroom’s overall aesthetic. The bed is usually the centerpiece of the room and this includes the headboard.
If you’ve had the same headboard for the last decade, it’s time to update it! You could go for a soft velvet or a classy leather look option, depending on the rest of your interior design.
When you find a headboard that matches your current aesthetic and looks neat and tidy, your bedroom can look dreamy and modern. Oh and don’t forget to invest in a new pillow and of course high-quality white bed linen too!
Paint the Walls
Scuff marks and scratches can appear on the walls over time without you noticing. It’s only when you stop to take a close look at the paint work that you notice how much they are in need of a new coat of paint.
To enhance the modern feel of your bedroom, grab your paintbrush and paint, and freshen up the walls. Generally, we recommend sticking to neutral colors, such as cream, beige, and light grey. This makes it easier to maintain a well-rounded bedroom aesthetic.
Once the painting is done, consider adding some bedroom wall art to complement your new wall colors and bring an extra touch of style and personality to the room. Selecting the right pieces can transform a simple bedroom into a sanctuary reflecting your tastes and comforts.
