Egg Fried Rice: A Quick and Nutritious Meal In Just a Few Minutes

Most people want to abandon one or two not so good habits in their life, such as stopping eating certain foods that are not good for their body, starting having a better and healthier diet that doesn’t take up too much of their time, but that is when it gets hard. Most people live a busy life, which means that they end up eating whatever they can find in their fridges.

No one can or wants to spend too much time in the kitchen. Truth be told, it is very difficult to keep on good habits when you have a very tight schedule. But do not worry, there is a bright side to this apparently messy situation.

If someone tells you there is a way to prepare healthy, delicious, nutritious, quick, and easy meals, would you believe it?

Having little time should not be an issue

Cooking when time is short has been one of the biggest challenges in any cuisine, most recipes require a good amount of time to complete the whole preparation process. There are only a few ingredients you can put together and mix to get quick, yet healthy dishes.

As rice is one of the most recognised and important basic foods around the world, it is quite easy to find all kinds of recipes prepared with this noble ingredient wherever you go.

From more elaborate dishes such as Paella in Spain to simpler and quicker dishes such as egg-fried rice in China, besides being iconic and healthy, what all these dishes have in common is that they have spread throughout nearly the entire world over hundreds of years.

There are many variations of egg fried rice, but all of them include the same base ingredients: rice, some vegetables, some seasoning, and eggs. The most common type of Chinese egg fried rice is Don Chao Fan, which is the Taiwanese version, a perfect dish to make when you don’t have enough time to cook.

Few dishes can compare to the ease, health benefits, and deliciousness of egg fried rice. There is no need for you to be a professional cook to achieve this dish, all you need are the most basic cooking skills that even a child can have and a few ingredients that everyone has on hand. You will surely have a tasty meal in record time.

An easy recipe for egg fried rice 

For starters, it is important to make it clear that this dish is mostly known for being the perfect way to use up any leftover rice from previous meals. So, in case you don’t have any previously cooked rice, you will need to cook some before you start making the dish.

One of the appeals of the egg fried rice recipe is that you don’t have to struggle to find the ingredients, you probably already have them. Here’s what you need:

  • 4 cups of cooked rice (ideal if cooled).
  • 312 oz. (100 g) of ham.
  • 312 oz. (100 g) of peas, previously cooked.
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce.
  • From 2 to 4 tablespoons of oil.
  • Salt and pepper to taste.
  • Onions or scallions, finely chopped.
  • 3 well-beaten eggs.

Once you have gathered and prepared all of the ingredients, it is time for the preparation, carefully follow each of the next steps and you will surely have a very tasty dish:

  1. Dice the ham. Remove the chives from the stems and chop them small.
  2. The eggs should be well beaten.
  3. Place a wok over high heat with some oil well spread all over the bottom. 
  4. Add the rice and sauté for 1 minute after the oil is heated (stirring constantly).
  5. Combine the peas, onions or scallion, and salt and pepper with the rice in the wok. Stir continuously for one minute. Then, add the eggs and continue to stir for 3 more minutes.
  6. Serve while it is still hot and enjoy!
