How to Create More Space in Your Home
*Collaborative Post
There are all kinds of reasons why people move house but most common of all is that they’re looking for a little more space. If your family is growing, you want a bigger garden or you need a home office, it makes perfect sense – but it’s much easier said than done.
For a start, the average house price in the UK as of February 2022 stood at £277,000 – £27,000 more than at the same stage 12 months previously. With costs rising and the process of moving home still just as stressful as ever, it might prove a better option to stay put for the time being.
And if you are seeking to create more space in your home, there are a few things you can do. Read on to find out more.
Add Some Mirrors
Mirrors can create the illusion of more space, especially if strategically placed around the room. You can angle them towards a focal point to create added depth or position them close to windows to reflect the outside world. You don’t have to restrict yourself to hanging them on walls, either. They can be used on doors and even on floors for a unique effect.
Maximise Your Awkward Spaces
As the first room you enter in a lot of properties, the hallway should be an inviting, welcoming space. Unfortunately, however, it often becomes a dumping ground for bags, shoes, coats, umbrellas and plenty more things that don’t quite have a home. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Why not consider installing a wardrobe under the stairs to keep all these items and leave your hallway looking neat and tidy?
Clear Out The Loft
It’s one of those jobs that you’ve been putting off for weeks, months or even years. Few people relish a trip up into the attic, especially when they know they’re going to be faced with boxes as far as the eye can see. But if what’s up there can be thrown away, recycled or donated then why not take on the challenge? You’ll feel a great sense of achievement and the space will come in handy as storage for things you actually need, with the added bonus of freeing up more room elsewhere in the home.
Opt For Multifunctional Furniture
It could be a footstool with built-in storage, a desk/bookshelf combination or a bed with drawers that slide out from underneath the mattress. If you’re tight on space, furniture items like these can prove invaluable in being able to double up and save you from having to buy too many bulky pieces that dominate the room.
