Giving your home an update needn’t cost the earth, just a few small tweaks can give both the outside and inside a freshened-up look. Explore budget-friendly ways to update your home exterior, including the strategic placement of best metal numbers for house. This guide offers creative and cost-effective ideas, ensuring your home’s facade reflects your unique style while enhancing its curb appeal with a touch of elegance and modernity.

Topiary balls and hanging plants

Add some green to your exterior with topiary balls and hanging planters, you can, of course, get the artificial type which require no upkeep, or bring out your green fingers and buy real ones. If you choose real plants, make sure it’s something that can withstand all types of weather and will look healthy and fresh all-year-round.

Porch lights

Whether you choose something vintage, like a lantern light, or opt for something a little more modern, adding a single porch light or two to frame your front door, can make a big difference to the look of your home. Not only great for the appearance, but they’re incredibly practical too, especially if the front of your home is particularly dark and you struggle to get your keys in the door.

Solar path lights

The exterior of your home will look modern and sleek with the addition of solar lights to line the paths. Just a few on each side can help guide yourself and guests up to the front door, and give your exterior a new look. The use of solar lights means you won’t have to worry about wiring either, just simply put them in where you’d like and let the sun do all the hard work.

Lick of paint

One of the more expensive and tricky points on this list, but definitely worth the extra bit of effort. It’s quite amazing how much of a difference changing the colour of your home can make. You can buy exterior home paint for around £40 for a 10-litre tub, and it lasts for at least 10 years.

Add house numbers to your exterior

What does our front door number look like? Could it be given a spruce? We love the personalised door number plates you can get with either your surname or house name on, or maybe you just want something a little more special than metal numbers attached to the door. There are plenty of options to shop out there; Not On The High Street is great for alternative options to the norm.

Change your front door or paint it

If the cost isn’t too much you could change your front door, inject a new colour or style with an updated front door. Or if you can, you could paint it to give it a new lease of life. And as bad it might sound, if you have a white or a light-coloured door, a good scrub and clean will definitely freshen it up.

Climbing Vine

Like the plants, a climbing vine along your wall could be real or fake, just depends on how much upkeep you’d like. The great thing about a fake one is that you know it’s not going to overgrow.

Show some personality with your welcome mat

We love the fun and quirky welcome mats that we’ve spotted everywhere from Asda to Etsy and Matalan to John Lewis. Show some of your personality on the exterior of your home with a welcome mat that’s fun and practical too.

Add some stones

Buy bags of slate, gravel or pebbles to add some stones to your exterior or your home, you don’t need loads; just a few bags to outline a path or a flower bed, etc.

Get the jet wash out

If you don’t have a jet wash yourself it could be the perfect time to buy one, or the chances are you already know someone with one. You’ll be amazed at how a little effort with the jet wash can make a big difference to the look of your front path, and the effect it has on your whole exterior.
