One of the most exciting parts of welcoming a new baby is getting to decorate the nursery. Making space in your home for the new baby to occupy makes everything feel very real, and wondering who will be coming along to fill the room is part of the anticipation around meeting your child for the first time. What can you do to make the nursery unique and lift your décor out of the ordinary? Here are the latest hot trends in nurseries that you can use to welcome your little one into the world:

3D Wall Art

Murals in nurseries are pretty standard fare these days, so a lot of parents to be are now taking the trend a step further and making their wall art 3d. From simple shadow boxes filled with keepsakes personalised to the baby, to giant florals and butterflies and even sensory elements with textured grass and trees, little imaginations will be inspired by some of the wonderful walls trending in nurseries around the globe. Make it personal to your child for the best results.

Upcycled Furniture

Instead of the same old Ikea Hemnes furniture that seems to be in every nursery, why not try upcycling some traditional pieces to make them perfect for your new arrival? Older furniture is often a lot better prepared and constructed from solid wood. If heavy, darker pieces aren’t your style, they can be completely revamped with a lick of eggshell paint in white, grey or a pastel colour. Consider leaving the top bar bare wood for a chic look. Changing the handles for metal pulls or crystals can make a big difference as well. Scout auction sites for solid wood furniture to bag a bargain – you can use a service like Shiply to find the best quotes to transport the item to you if it’s not local.

Statement Lighting

Instead of a regular lampshade, why not think creatively about the lighting in your babies’ room? Shades with cutouts that throw beautiful storybook shadows are an excellent option, or why not look at lighting installations? LED projectors are cost-effective but can give a spectacular look to the room at bedtime – you can get ones that project the constellations onto the ceiling and make it rain stars down on your little one. Many people are also now installing combination lighting and mobiles that have decorations such as silk flowers attached.

Cosy Corners

When you’re planning out the space, as well as sleeping areas, space for storing clothes and toys and a changing table, think about creating a cosy little corner for feeding the baby, getting them to sleep or storytime. Many parents are liking a small teepee as a fun installation, or get a beautiful wing chair and some bookcases with a cosy lamp to create a special place for quiet time within the room.

Decorating a nursery is a special time and can give a good deal of pleasure as you look forward to the baby coming. Giving the room the wow factor with a couple of these simple ideas can get you excited and help satisfy the nesting instinct!
