Review | Make My Blinds

The main thing I have hated about our kitchen diner in the last few years has been how dark it is. We opted for dark flooring, furniture and blinds when we first moved in 8 years ago and it never really crossed my mind that the space would feel so gloomy, I just liked the idea of not having any marks showing up. We brightened the walls up with yellow for the kitchen end and green in the dining end but it never really brought it all to life which is precisely why we decided to start the overhaul back before Christmas with the aim to add storage, update it and brighten the entire room. So, when Make My Blinds contacted me to ask if I’d like to review some from the extensive range online, I couldn’t say no!
I had been hunting for the right blinds for months but I just couldn’t figure out what would work for us. The two windows we have are different sizes and one end looks out onto the path which means that a lot of nosey people love to look back in! Due to this issue, we have always needed a blind over curtains in order to retain some privacy. So, when I clicked onto the Make my Blinds website I was literally in blinds heaven!
Make My Blinds Website
If you have no clue what you want or like I can guarantee that this site will change all of this. As soon as I arrived on their site I was provided with the choices of wooden blinds, Venetian blinds, roller blinds, vertical blinds, perfect fit blinds and more! I had found the place I needed. As I began to peruse the website I had to open more and more tabs to keep all of my choices on my laptop for me to refer back in order to compare them– I really liked so many of them and knew I had to search for a while in order to get the right match for our new kitchen.
Make My Blinds offer plenty of hints and tips throughout their site, you can check how to measure, have your questions answered in their blog, there are videos and step by step instructions on installation plus they offer free samples.
Once you have selected the blind you think you want you can even fill in your window measurements to a box and they will immediately provide you with an image of how this will look. That for me was such a bonus because I sometimes have a difficult time envisaging these things.
The Blinds Choices
Do I go for wooden? Do I opt for white or off cream? Do I select the taped blinds? Would a veneer be best? Oh my goodness the choice really had me questioning so much! However, after much deliberation, I came down to 3 options with the one remaining decision being whether or not to go for a blind with tapes. I loved the look but I wasn’t sure if it would look right in a kitchen. However, I always like to go with something a bit different so I went for it!
The Process
Once you have made your selection you simply add your measurements to the website and allow them to do the rest. Each blind is custom-made which means you will get a perfect fit to that window. Just make sure you check if you want this inside or outside of the recess and if in doubt, just drop them a line to gain a bit more information.
The Blinds
I didn’t have to wait very long for my two new blinds to arrive and I was surprisingly very excited by this! In the end, I went with the Real Wood Delicate Fawn with Egyptian Cotton Tape. I wanted a slight warmth to them which is why I didn’t go for a white and I know I made the perfect choice.
The thick slats look so modern and classy, the cotton tape gives the blinds an interesting focal point and add a country cottage feel and the colour has lifted the darkness more than I would have imagined.
Are you ready for the before and after?
Before
This is the dining room end which looks out onto the street. We would rarely have this open due to the odd light it would give as the sun came through the small slats and because people could still see in.
The kitchen end looks out onto the garden so the purpose of this blind has only ever been to block out the sun rather than for privacy.
You can see how dark and dingy both were and that neither fitted the windows properly either.
After
We now have a light and airy feel to our dining room area, the blinds can be opened to allow natural light to flood in and I just think they look amazing!
The kitchen area now has a blind that fits the recess of the window and it has brightened this space so well.
You can see from this image how large the slats are and how much light they allow to pour through once they are open.
The blinds have a simple drawstring mechanism which opens and closes the slats which are much nicer than the pole we had on our previous blinds.
Overall Thoughts
I think you have probably pretty much guessed that I am over the moon with our new blinds and cannot believe how much they have transformed not only the way our kitchen looks but also the way it feels. I wanted to achieve light and airy and that is exactly what I have got. I can still retain that privacy but without compromising on the finished look and I can tell from the quality that these are going to last us a very long time (they come with a four-year guarantee too).
Now to finish the rest of our kitchen (and maybe look for a new blind for the living room next?!)

I love these! I could really do with one for my kitchen as we have nothing yet – do they have a good colour range?
Their range is huge! They had so many variations of white and cream but they also do darker colours too.
It makes such a difference to the whole room, looks more spacious and airy. Bet you can’t stop looking at them!
I absolutely love them!
This sounds like such a fun process, will definitely check it out when I finally get round to my dining room makeover!
Wow! It’s amazing the difference it makes!
I’ve been looking to do something similar in our kitchen – at the moment we have curtains but they get in the way all the time. I will keep them in mind for sure. These look great
I love these blinds. It looks really bright!
