Re-Discovering Yourself After Becoming a Mother

I have always been a worker. I started out doing a paper round after school, went on to have a Saturday job at 16 and after leaving college I decided that working was for me and not studying. I worked my way up in a well-known retailer and had such a passion for it that you would have thought I owned the shop myself. After leaving this job to pursue a new career as a teaching assistant I unexpectedly fell pregnant very quickly (we had tried the year before but after 4 months nothing had happened. Just goes to show what a new job can do for you!) I went on maternity and had planned to return to work but my new found motherly attachment had other plans! I knew I had to be at home with him and I knew I wouldn’t have been happy going back into full-time work.

Trying to buy a gift for a baby shower can be quite a tricky job. If you buy clothes, will everybody else do so too? If you do buy clothes what size do you go for? They all vary so much. Will the parents end up with everything in white? What if the new parents have already been on their shopping spree? Stop your worry and begin to think outside of the box.

10 Activities To Do With Your Kids In The Winter

As the days grow shorter, colder and wetter it’s easy to feel as though all you want to do is sit on the sofa, drink lots of hot chocolate and hide away until the summer makes a comeback. Then you remember that you now own a tiny person and this is far from their idea of how a day should go!

The beautiful sunny day’s out to country parks, the beach, going for picnics or playing in the garden are now not always possible in the winter months and you have to try and come up with new activities to fill your week. This change in weather can also really affect our moods and having less to do and feeling trapped inside the house can add to this low feeling. I have decided to put together a helpful list to help you re-discover the fun activities that you can still do with your little one(s) during the winter months.

Wherever The Train Takes Us: Visiting Hythe

Visiting Hythe was a last-minute decision for my birthday this year but I am so glad that my husband suggested it. Jake had begged and begged us to take him on a train so we decided to combine my trip with his – he is train mad! We had originally planned a trip to London but with colds and tonsillitis getting to us we opted for the closer city of Southampton which provides an easy gateway across to Hythe.

Garden Ideas

We have a very small garden because whoever builds houses these days obviously assumes that no modern-day person likes to do gardening (???) So I make the most out of the small space we have by researching garden ideas, looking into what others have done and I have discovered a passion for something I never thought I would – or maybe I am just getting old?!

Having re-positioned flower beds and re-laid the lawn, added pots, hanging baskets and bought new plants (yes, we learnt the hard way how expensive it is to only buy seasonal flowers after the first year).
