Why I’m a Different Kind of Mum The Second Time Around

Before

I think most of us had these beautiful, romantic images of what we would all be like as parents prior to becoming one, didn’t we? Those long summer days filled with picnics and games, carefully painting their hands and creating perfect keepsakes, holding them in your arms until they gently drop off to sleep, feeding them healthy, homemade meals… you get the gist and right now you are probably laughing and nodding along because let’s face it, parenthood is pretty different to all of that! Yes, I May Moan, But I Wouldn’t Change A Thing!

Yes, I may moan, but I wouldn’t change a thing…

I may moan about the serious lack of sleep, why at three he still doesn’t feel the need to sleep through the night I still can’t quite fathom out. I may moan about the mess he makes again and again and I definitely moan when his strops escalate over the smallest of issues but I have a secret to tell you Continue reading “Yes, I May Moan, But I Wouldn’t Change A Thing!”

The Intensity of Parenthood

There are some days where we just have to stay in. Yep, on some days the house does need a good clean, on some days I have a delivery coming or some/most days the weather is yet again trying to flood us all so there just seems no point in attempting to leave the house with a wriggly toddler who is now almost as fast as Usain Bolt!

These days are rarely fun. Why can kids not just be at home and play with their millions of toys, Continue reading “The Intensity of Parenthood”

Am I getting it right?

Am I getting it right? A question we all ask ourselves repeatedly from the moment we take our precious bundles home. We put so much pressure on ourselves to strive to be ‘the best’ parent– in inverted comma’s coz the best is merely subjective and usually implanted in our brains by beautiful pictures on social media. We believe that we should be up and dressed at the crack of dawn, have a spotless home, go to every Continue reading “Am I getting it right?”

Toddler Tantrums? The Solution is Actually Simple

Toddler tantrums are all fun and games, aren’t they?! We have been through the pre-stages of the well-known ‘terrible two’s’ but just recently everything has cranked up a notch. For me, it came as a bit of a shock with Jake going from a frustrated little one who maybe had a tantrum once in a while, usually related to my lack of understanding what he needed, to being a crazed tiny being who I didn’t recognise anymore! The first phase of this- prior to turning 2 – didn’t last too long and as he was so small he was easily calmed and also, being a boy, he didn’t have the attention span to make it last much longer than 30 seconds!
