7 Simple Tips To Help You To Achieve Your 1000 Hours Outside Challenge

This year we decided to take part in the 1000 Hours Outside challenge. The idea behind this being that we get our kids away from those screens and show them that the great outdoors can be amazing fun as well as good for their physical and mental wellbeing. Being a Mum to 2 very active boys I didn’t think I would find it too hard but come February, I realised I had overestimated how much time we spend outside in the winter months. It is so easy to make excuses that it is too cold, too wet, we don’t have enough daylight time and I suddenly became very aware of how much we all relied on screentime to entertain us until the better weather came.

Moors Valley Country Park

Visiting Moors Valley Country Park

As a family, we love being outdoors and discovering new places. We first visited Moors Valley Country Park a few years back but didn’t get to stay very long and then just kept forgetting to drive back to explore it further. Located in Dorset, Ringwood near to Bournemouth, it is around an hours drive for us so it definitely needed a whole day dedicated to returning and now that both of the boys are at the stage of being able to enjoy things together, it seemed like the right time to head back down there.

coral reef waterworld

Review | Coral Reef Waterworld, Bracknell

Coral Reef Waterworld was our favourite place for swimming when Jake was younger. I would happily drive the 40 minutes from Basingstoke to Bracknell to enjoy the fun of the pools, jacuzzi, rapids, pirate ship, slide and so much more. I loved it because it was the warmest pool I had ever visited which is always important when you have babies or small children, they provided armbands, the entire pool was open (unlike our local Aquadrome which doesn’t seem to think that opening every area is required for some reason?) It was always very clean and it had a lovely restaurant to grab some lunch in after our swim. It was well worth the drive up there, so you can imagine my disappointment when they announced they were closing for a year for refurbishment.

What to Do in London this Winter

*Collaborative post

Although the summer months are often favoured when it comes to planning days out, winter brings its own unique range of exciting events and activities that the whole family can enjoy.

In London, there is always something new just waiting to be discovered, ranging from culture and history-based trips to foodie adventures and music, arts or sporting events. Compared to the warmer months of the year, the capital should be quieter during the winter without so many tourists – the perfect time to plan a day trip! London is so easily accessible via train but if you are further afield why not think about what flights to London are available. It could be great fun for the whole family and will also get you there in no time!

little play town child playing in play areas

Our Visit to Little Play Town

The weather has been less than Spring-like recently (to say the least) and as most of our usual indoor activities had been exhausted we found ourselves at a bit of a loss over what to do the other day. Then I remembered hearing about a new play place in Odiham, Hampshire. A friend had highly recommended that we visit Little Play Town because her children had such a great time so I set about looking it up online.

Little Play Town is an indoor interactive play place for babies and children aged 1-6 years. It is very similar to Little Street in that it is a role-based, learning, play area focused on imaginative play but with different equipment and sections. As we really enjoyed visiting Little Street I knew we would love this place too.

Visiting The Living Rainforest

We discovered The Living Rainforest in Berkshire a few years ago and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of it sooner. Situated in Thatcham near Newbury, Berkshire this indoor gem is an ecological and educational centre which attracts visitors all year round. It provides a tropical environment based across 3 rooms in which you can discover wonderful plants, insects and animals all of which are becoming endangered in our rainforests today. If you love The Eden Project you will also love it here!
