What is Toad Patrol and Why Should You Join?

As you’ll know, me and my family are passionate about conservation and one way we help out locally is by volunteering at a Toad Patrol. I know it sounds funny at first but honestly, this is such an important organisation and it’s something we absolutely love joining in with each year. Because of this, I thought I would give you a little more information on what it is and what it entails so that perhaps, by the end of this blog, you may be inspired to help out too…

How We Do a Secondhand Christmas

We all know the Christmas season can be expensive, but for our family, it can be even more challenging. With several birthdays packed into November and December — including our eldest’s on the 25th — it’s double the planning and double the gifts for us! In the early years, this made the holidays feel more stressful and costly but over time, we found a way to make it work by changing our mindsets and how we shop. Instead of heading to the High Street, we started shopping secondhand as much as possible. Here is how we do secondhand Christmas and how you could too.

We all want to make positive environmental changes in our lives, don’t we? Switching from single-use plastics to reusables, reducing our carbon footprint, eating more sustainably sourced foods, choosing eco-friendly transportation and so on, but as with everything in life, some areas are harder to tackle than others. One that I hear most often is around bathroom products and more commonly toothbrushes. You see, traditional plastic toothbrushes are a big plastic pollution concern but then ordinary electric brushes are also made from plastic and are non-recyclable but the eco-friendly bamboo toothbrush option isn’t to everyone’s liking. It can be so tricky. For years there was chatter about what was for the best but thankfully I can now share with you an even better choice for both your oral health and the planet – The SURI sustainable electric toothbrush. The Safe Alternatives to Tampons

*Affiliate Links

The recent alarming news about tampons containing harmful substances such as lead and arsenic has created quite a stir (and rightly so). It is shocking that something menstruators have heavily relied upon each month could be dangerous to their health, but truthfully, tampons have never been safe. All tampons contain plastics – even the string in some cases – plus they are bleached to achieve that fresh white look and it has been previously reported that they could well also contain carcinogenic chemicals such as glyphosate amongst other things. The fact that these were ever sold as being safe to be placed inside a vagina is quite mind-boggling. Luckily, there are safe options available, ones that are good for your vaginal health as well as good for the planet – reusables. So, let’s take a close look at the sustainable tampon alternatives that could well change and improve your period forever…
