Review | Evening Primrose Oil From Epsilon Life
*Paid Collaboration
I am not new to Evening Primrose Oil and actually took it after finishing my breastfeeding journey with my first child, Jake, because one big problem decided to hit me like a ton of bricks– PMS. I’d never had too many issues in that area prior to becoming a Mum but I guess everything went a bit haywire after pregnancy and my hormones didn’t seem to want to settle back down to normal levels. At the time, I took the initiative to do some research on what could help and I stumbled across the benefits of Evening Primrose Oil which included helping women through PMS issues. I went on to find a great balance with the other remedies which included reflexology, exercise, relaxation, and I thought I had it all sussed.
However, I went on to have my second child and yet again when my periods returned so did my problems and some of them were even worse than before, namely my moods and migraines. Health is so important to me but with 2 kids in tow, who really hate to sleep, it has become harder and harder to look after myself and to take the time. I used to love exercise, I used to get a full nights’ sleep and I used to eat far more healthy. Nowadays, I am using tea and sugar to keep going, I am woken nearly every night and I have only just managed to get back into running after having a break from exercise. Of course, none of this has been good for my body and as somebody who suffers from PMS issues, I haven’t been helping myself. So, now is the time to get back on track and thankfully, Epsilon Life got in contact with me to ask me to try their own Evening Primrose Oil to see if they could help me out.
How Does Evening Primrose Oil Help?
There are actually no scientific studies that are conclusive on how or why Evening Primrose Oil works on PMS except for the fact that the oils aid in reducing breast tenderness. However, as it is rich in fatty acids, these can help the body to produce anti-inflammatory prostaglandins which is most probably why women see a difference during the run-up to their period. For me, I’m not always one for needing a scientific explanation as I believe that there are many natural remedies in the world which truly do work but may not ever be recommended by a medical professional, for example, Amber for teething or Echinacea for colds, both of which I use and love! If a product makes a difference in my life, I will continue to take it and to talk about it. For me, Evening Primrose Oil has helped with my low moods during PMS as well as that bloating most of us experience.
My Review
Epsilon Life asked me to take their Evening Primrose tablets for a month so I could fully see the benefits of their product. There was no point in only taking this for a week or so and reporting back to you as I needed to see for myself if they would work for me again. As your body changes with each pregnancy, I knew that there was a chance that this may not work in the same way this time for me and I, of course, wanted to be able to give you an honest and insightful review.
“Epsilon Evening Primrose Oil 1,300 mg is your convenient daily source of EPO. Evening Primrose Oil contains one of the highest amounts of Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) of any plant, and every capsule is guaranteed to contain at least 117mg of GLA.
Gamma Linolenic Acid is an omega-6 fatty acid that the body converts into substances that help with cell growth. It is essential for the body, and a lack of GLA can lead to various problems.”

I simply take 1 tablet per day in the morning. They are large but very easy to swallow and are also tasteless. I’d say it’s taken around 3 weeks for me to see any changes but that’s normal with any supplement. I think the biggest difference was that last month I actually didn’t get any physical signs of my period about to come. I wasn’t bloated, my breasts didn’t hurt and I wasn’t retaining water. So, when my period arrived I was really surprised. The week before I am usually more sluggish, achy and definitely bloated so this was a nice relief from that.
Another change I have seen is the tone of my skin. Now, if you have followed me for a while, you will know that my skin is my biggest body hang-up and when my period is coming, it gets angry! The oils in my skin and hair increase and I tend to have spot outbreaks. This has never changed since being a teenager and I hate living with it.
Just last week, I noticed that my skin felt softer and I hadn’t had many spots. Now, my skin is dehydrated and this seems to be the case no matter how much water I drink (believe me I have tried the 8 glasses a day with no results!) The only thing that works is applying enriching natural beauty products and now it also seems to be the oils in these tablets. I guess my body is maybe lacking in the Omega 6 which is found in Evening Primrose Oil?
One list of reasons why my skin may be better comes from New Directions Aromatics Blog which states:
LINOLEIC ACIDS (OMEGA-6) are known to:
- Moisturize hair and promote its growth
- Facilitate wound healing
- Be an effective emulsifier in the formulation of soaps and quick-drying oils
- Exhibit anti-inflammatory properties
- Soothe acne and reduce chances of future outbreaks
- Promote moisture retention in skin and hair
- Make oils feel thinner in consistency when used in an oil blend, thus being beneficial for use on acne-prone skin
- Help slow the look of ageing by sustaining skin elasticity and softness
And lastly, my moods. Ok, so these are going to take some time to fully combat and I do also believe that being non-stop and not getting enough sleep is also contributing to them BUT, with the lack of physical issues, no bloating and the better skin, these have helped my mood to improve too. It’s hard to know whether the Evening Primrose Oil is having an effect itself on this part and I think only time will tell on that one, but so far I am happy.
I have been so pleased that Evening Primrose Oil has worked for me this time around and that Epsilon Life’s tablets have had even better results due to my skin improvement. I will most definitely be continuing to take these for the foreseeable future.
Other Benefits of Evening Primrose Oil
Of course, Evening Primrose Oil does have other benefits too which include helping acne, arthritis, dry skin, menopausal problems such as hot flushes, relieve nerve pain and they may even help to ease eczema.

Fabulous review, I really suffer with my periods so may take a look into trying evening primrose!
I used to take Evening Primrose oil for my painful periods, I’m a big believer in supplements, now I take a daily dose of magnesium and cod liver oil. But I didn’t realise EP oil could help with migraines too, I still get them from time to time so I might have to start taking it again. Great review, thank you,Emma 🙂
