When you live in a country like the UK it may be hard to imagine that saving water can be important but even with our amount of rainfall, the earth is still warming, we are beginning to see hotter summers and more unusual weather patterns which is all leading to a water shortage and, if we don’t act now, it is predicted that by 2050 we will see real struggles. Here are 10 water saving tips that you can easily do each and every day in your own home that will help the environment.

My eco topics category is my latest addition to my blog. I decided to make changes to my lifestyle in 2018 because I knew we needed to take steps to become more eco-friendly. It began with the change to reusable nappies and wipes and from there I made a promise to continue to try and find other ways to improve our wasteful ways and at the same time offer up tips, advice and hopefully inspire others.
Making these changes has had such a positive impact on us as a family. We are enjoying finding new ways of doing things, we love talking about it with others and we are saving money too! Such a win! Eco topics are now a huge passion of mine and I hope you will enjoy them as much as we are.

Talking To Childcare Settings About Cloth Nappies… And Getting Them On Board!
When it comes to the time to choose a childcare setting we all have certain areas that we want to be ticked off: experienced staff, outdoor time, educational play, socialisation, role play, plenty of stimulation and so on, but if you are a cloth parent, approaching childcare settings about using them can feel very daunting. Disposable nappies have been mainstream for a long time now and it may seem the easiest option to go along with this just to “fit in” but if we want to continue to spread the word about cloth, if we want our child/children to wear them full time, if we want to make a change and bring cloth to the forefront then talking about them and asking others to use them too is the way to help this to happen. In this article, I am going to share how I went about talking to a childcare setting about cloth nappies and how I got them on board (spoiler, it wasn’t hard!)

Stasher Bag Review

As a family, we are always looking for new ways to reduce our kitchen waste and one of the biggest areas is to eliminate all single-use food coverings and storage. We already use beeswax wraps which have been a great step towards banishing the clingfilm but sometimes you really need a sealed option that won’t let the air in and even though we try out best to reuse freezer bags, they still wear over time and need replacing. We needed a reusable and long-term solution. Stasher Bags provide that and I was sent a selection in this month’s SaveMoneyCutCarbon box to review.

6 Ways You Can Reduce Your Food Waste
Food waste is a huge problem not only here in the UK but across the globe. It is estimated that 1/3 of the food we buy ends up going to waste which equates to 10 million tonnes a year! Not only is this shocking because of the number of people who are living in food poverty but it is a huge issue for our planet too. This food all has to go somewhere and, if not incinerated, that somewhere will be landfill where it will very slowly rot. You may think this is the best place for it as many companies consistently try to persuade us that products can biodegrade in landfill but unfortunately, landfill will never be able to provide the right conditions for this and instead, everything that ends up there will still be there in decades to come. The waste we send is usually inside a plastic bin bag. Items inside will be up against more plastic, materials and metals. The mix of this as well as the lack of oxygen leads to your food waste emitting dangerous gases such as methane which enter the atmosphere and contributing to global warming.

Save Money And Cut Carbon With LED Bulbs

When it comes to living more sustainably, there isn’t just one clear cut way of achieving this. We all want to do our bit and no matter how big or small that is, each change is important. I will often use the phrase Small Sustainable Steps because I truly believe these are what matter, there is no way that every single person can attempt to make huge changes in their lives but each of us can take a small step. Another aspect of eco-living that I often hear is that it is difficult to do. Yes, I agree that not all eco swaps will suit every person but to me, if you select changes that you know you can make, that will last, that will work for you, then that is enough. One area which I think we could all begin to tackle is to switch our light bulbs. Sounds very simple, doesn’t it? If we all switched our old light bulbs over to LED bulbs we could take some big steps towards cutting our carbon whilst also saving money.

Shopping more sustainably has been something that I have been actively trying to do for the last couple of years. I have found that secondhand shopping works really well for us as a family but there are times when you really do need to buy new (I, like many, will only buy new underwear and socks). In this case, I try my best to check out a company’s sustainability aims, their ethics and the materials their clothes are made from, however, I have found that it can be very tricky to tick every box, and it can be quite confusing when their statements aren’t as clear cut as you, the consumer requires. This is precisely why when a company like OLC Clothing, who are clearly passionate about what they do get into contact, I get really excited because it means that a change is happening and if it is a positive one for our planet then I am more than happy to support them.
