Can you believe that the summer has been and gone already? All that time spent making sure that you have a picturesque garden that’s the envy of your neighbours and already the leaves are starting to turn from green to rust. There are plenty of ways to make sure that your garden can be just as beautiful and enjoyable in Autumn. Just because the skies are getting a little greyer and the leaves are growing more sparse that’s no reason to retreat indoors and let your beloved garden wither.

Have you ever watched a gardening show and wished that you could have a garden like that? Maybe you’ve redesigned your garden before, but things tend to turn out a lot different when you don’t have a professional and creative landscape artist at your disposal. The National Botanic Garden Of Wales- A Great Day Out

We have just come back from a lovely break in Wales where we visited so many amazing different places but my favourite from the week had to be The National Botanic Garden Of Wales. Set in the beautiful countryside of Carmarthenshire these gardens are almost like a scaled-down version of The Eden Project. With stunning gardens of varying styles, a butterfly house, play areas, wooded walks, a waterfall to discover and the world’s largest single-span glasshouse there is something here for everyone.

making the most of your small garden

Making the Most of Your Small Garden

Most new houses now come with very small gardens and ours is no exception. It was the compromise we made to have a house we wanted in the right location but it is still something I struggle with even 6 years on. When I sit and watch gardening programmes I dream of having the space to be able to recreate some of their looks, to be able to have a pond or water feature and the land to have a separate play area away from all my plants. One day, when I win the lottery eh! So, for now, I have had to learn how to make the most of our small garden all whilst keeping it functional for all of us as a family.

DIY: Building a Bughouse

It may seem like we are always trying to get rid of unwanted pests and bugs in our garden but are we going too far at times? Not all bugs are actually pests and if you start to look into their roles you will find out that some are vital to our eco-system. We are now all very aware of the huge role bees play in the pollination of our plants, flowers and trees. One way to encourage bees to your garden is by planting brightly coloured and strong scented plants, such as lavender. These will return year after year, look fab, will fill out to cover large areas and will keep the bees coming back. Other popular flowers include Aster’s, Hydrangea, Bergamot, Sun Flowers and Jasmine. Sunflowers are of course a really fun option to plant and grow with your children. But how can we attract other bugs and keep them sticking around? How about by building a bughouse?
