Secondhand September is upon us and it is such a great time for us to shift our focus from buying everything brand new to thinking about what other options are available to us. In the past, I have been that snob. I have thought of secondhand items as not being good enough, not being luxurious enough and not being for me and I do believe that there was a lot of this mindset going around when I was growing up in the 90’s (coincidentally this was also the time when many of those so called “convenient” disposable items came to market too) but I have most definitely been converted and I am so, so glad to see a flurry of change coming with a lot more of us waking up to the damage that large corporations and fast fashion companies are causing to the planet in both pollution and greenhouse gases. Shopping secondhand is now seen as you being more environmentally friendly, as you being super savvy, it allows you to find one off pieces and to create unique collections inside your home. So, how do you go about shopping successfully in this way? Here are my tips for secondhand shopping…

My eco topics category is my latest addition to my blog. I decided to make changes to my lifestyle in 2018 because I knew we needed to take steps to become more eco-friendly. It began with the change to reusable nappies and wipes and from there I made a promise to continue to try and find other ways to improve our wasteful ways and at the same time offer up tips, advice and hopefully inspire others.
Making these changes has had such a positive impact on us as a family. We are enjoying finding new ways of doing things, we love talking about it with others and we are saving money too! Such a win! Eco topics are now a huge passion of mine and I hope you will enjoy them as much as we are.

Review | WUKA Period Swim Bikini Brief
*Gifted Product & Affiliate links
Swimming whilst on your period can be a bit of a pain. Exercise is such a great way of banishing those menstrual cramps but for some, the thought of getting into a pool during this time of the month can be daunting. You want to feel completely protected, you want to be comfortable and you want a product that will work with you not against you. In the past, tampons have been my go-to for swimming but since embarking on my eco journey, I haven’t wanted to use them. Of course, I have had to at times but funnily enough, since having my children, they have also become the most alien things to my body. I have been able to feel a tampon through every movement and couldn’t wait to remove it. Thankfully I then discovered the far more comfortable and eco-friendly menstrual cup but what do you do if you have a lighter period or if you want to swim towards the end of it? This is where WUKA period swim bikini brief can come into play and I have just been fortunate to review some during my recent annual holiday.

Having a comfortable period is something that is at the top of every person’s list. We all know that ‘that time of the month’ can bring PMS symptoms, aches, migraines, cramps and so on so the last thing anybody wants is to feel a bit yucky down below. Having used disposable menstrual products over many, many years (because I had no idea that reusables existed!) I know firsthand how disposable pads can make your periods heavier, how they can be smelly, can make your sweat, can move and lead to leaks and how the costs mount up. Thankfully, there are so many options available to us today

11 Ways To Be More Eco-Friendly As A New Parent
When I became a parent the first time around (almost 7 years ago now!) the products I was told about were all about convenience. Nobody ever suggested alternative methods or brands, it was disposable this, throw away that, make your life easy and buy to chuck out; who wants to do extra washing or cleaning? Who wants to do more when you are tired? Make things simpler, choose convenience. But when I became a parent the second time around, I realised that there were other ways and ways that are far better for our environment and also better for our pockets too! (Why does nobody mention this part?!) So, here are 11 ways to be more eco-friendly as a new parent…

Trying To Make Your Home More Sustainable? Let Nature Do The Heavy Lifting!
*Collaborative Post
Our use of plastic is getting drastic. Our love of meat and dairy is making climate change pretty scary. And our reliance on fossil fuels… doesn’t rhyme with much. Nonetheless, it’s pretty poor for the environment. In recent years, we’ve become too well-educated to continue burying our heads in the sand. We know full well that the choices we make as a consumer can either damage or help to protect the planet we all share. We’re all doing our best to eat more plants and less of everything else (animal agriculture contributes more to climate change, deforestation, animal habitat loss and ocean dead zones than any other industry). To walk and cycle more, and only use our cars when absolutely necessary to reduce our carbon footprint. And to implement ways to save water and energy.

Reusable Water Balloons Review
Many years ago, before I fully realised the impact we were having on the environment with our disposable lifestyles, we would buy Jake those cheap single-use water balloons that went onto a hose. After several uses, I came to realise that a.) they were a complete waste of money and b.) that it was impossible to pick up every tiny piece that had broken away and I was left finding them in flower beds, in the grass etc for months afterwards. I very quickly put a stop to us purchasing them and I felt incredibly guilty for it each time he would see them in the shops and ask for them. I mean, I get it, it is so much fun for a child and you don’t want to let them down, but I knew I couldn’t allow this needless waste to happen in our home. So, when The Clever Cactus showed reusable water balloons on her social media channels a little while ago, I knew I had found the perfect solution! Here is a little more on what they are, how they work and what we think of them.
