Review | Eco Cleaning with E-Cloth

*Gifted Products

I really do like a clean house but I really detest having to use chemicals. I have become far more aware of the amount most people use every single day around their homes and this not only affects the environment but can also affect your health, your children’s and any pets you may own too. I’ve recently been making my own cleaning products in order to steer clear of all of these toxins but then e-cloth got in touch with me and told me they had cloths that enabled you to clean using only water!! Yes, just water. Well, I knew I had to find out if this could work for me and I just had to see the results for myself. I was kindly sent the general purpose cloth, glass and polishing cloth, water spray bottle, shower cleaning cloths, washing up pad and the pad and tablet cleaning kit from e-cloth to review.

About E-Cloth

“What if you could build dazzling cleaning power into a durable, reusable cloth instead of delivering it in a disposable bottle?”

“With that question, the e-cloth brand and the e-cloth General Purpose Cloth were born. And since then, the same simple question has driven the development of dozens of task-specific specialist cleaning products, proven by experience and lab testing to clean beautifully – as well or better than that bottle full of chemicals – with just water.”

E-Cloth Review

General Purpose Cloth

E-Cloth States:

“The e-cloth General Purpose Cloth is one of the two original e-cloths. Its thicker fibres and wedge shape construction absorb spills and remove dirt, grease and over 99% of bacteria, using just water”

I started my e-cloth review by trying out the general purpose cloth. Thinking that this cloth would just be simply used to wipe down a kitchen worktop down I began there…

dirty worktop in the kitchen

I wet the cloth and began to wipe. I honestly thought I was going to get results in the exact same way as any household cloth I use… I was wrong.

I quickly discovered how much it grabbed onto, how in one small wipe, I had gathered everything up and how even stuck on jam came away with ease.

clean worktop

My mind was completely blown. I had this damp cloth, no spray, no chemicals to help to ease off the marks and yet it tackled it so quickly and easily. I just had to see what else it could do.

Soon enough, every cupboard door was spotless, it removed tea stains, old crayon that I couldn’t previously shift, grubby finger marks, general dust and grime that every kitchen gets etc. I was literally buzzing from using this cloth! A few wipes over the fridge and it came up white and shiny, a wipe around the sink and it lifted off yucky marks and then I wondered, I just wondered how it would perform on that chair that William had drawn on months before. Felt tip pen, crayon and pencil marks that seemed to be stuck…

Well, this left me speechless…

Everything except the felt tip came off and I couldn’t believe my eyes!!

So, I knew I had to read up a little on this magic cloth to work out exactly why it works like this and this is what I found out:

“Their 480,000 fibres per cm2 give them enormous cleaning power. The fibres break up and remove more grease and dirt, incredibly using just water. Surfaces are cleaned so effectively that there is nowhere left for bacteria to grow.

Using high quality fibres, the construction of each cloth is specifically selected for the cloth’s end use – varying in fibre size, the way the fibres are processed, density and speed of absorption”

I mean it is just so simple but also revolutionary. You can clean your home knowing that it is really clean without the need for any chemicals and I honestly really did put this cloth through its paces. I wiped away dirt and grime from the bannister, the rail, the skirting boards, the doors, the walls, work surfaces, the bathroom and even the oven…

It seems that there is nothing in my home that this little cloth cannot clean! I will definitely be buying more of these.

Glass and Polishing Cloth

The glass and polishing cloth also promised me it could clean with just water which I found hard to believe as I have always struggled with smears when just wiping with water. I was sent a reusable bottle to spray the water with and a cloth to clean with.

Yet again, e-cloth left me stunned! Not only did my mirror come up clean with zero marks left on it but it was also smear free and shiny.

Shower Cleaning Cloths

E-cloth have also designed a set of shower cleaning cloths. One will clean your shower whilst the other will bring it up to a nice shine and it even comes with a hook so you can keep your cloths right to hand.

Now my shower is such a pain to clean. We live in an extremely hard water area and when we moved in it was already badly marked. Over the years I have used every product under the sun, a steam cleaner and even tried a scraper to get it to look better. It is still a constant battle and I guess to keep on top of it I should really be cleaning it after every single use to prevent the water from staying there and leaving these dreadful marks but that isn’t always convenient. However, with cloths hanging up in the shower which work with only water and no cleaning sprays, I could now clean either whilst in the shower or straight after.

This is my screen before. You can just about make out the water marks:

I gave it a clean with water with one cloth and then buffed it up with the second cloth:

AFTER:

Yes there are still limescale marks, I think there always will be as these seem to be ingrained on there now but I was really pleased with how these cloths removed the grime and usual soap scum that a shower gets covered in.

I then gave these a go on the taps on the sink too…

They were gleaming!! It was all so quick and easy and as a busy Mum of two that’s exactly what I need in my life.

Washing Up Pad

Washing up just with water? Noooooo… There was no way I thought this would work (you can tell how sceptical I was with all of these, can’t you?!) Well, this proved me completely wrong too. With both of these photo examples I only used water for washing up.

I then thought I would make the cloth work harder and chose a pan that had baked beans cooked in it the evening before…

I mean, wow!!

Now the pad did struggle just with water on the greasy kitchenware but then I didn’t expect it to work. You need a detergent of some sort to cut through that, especially if you don’t wash up immediately after a meal (like us!) But it certainly made light work of these items too.

Pad and Tablet Cleaning Kit

The pad and tablet cleaning kit comes equipped with a natural cleaning solution for cutting through greasy finger marks, grime and whatever else ends up on those screens, plus a cloth to wipe it with. With little ones around this was ideal for us and yet again, it was cleaning made easy.

More On E-Cloth

“The tendency of water to grab and hold small particles is among the most powerful forces in nature. It’s the force that forms every raindrop and snowflake – and it’s the all-natural “active ingredient” in every e-cloth product. Each of our precision-engineered microfibre textiles is designed to unlock this amazing power of water to perform specific cleaning tasks”

I mean cleaning with just water and hearing that it removes 99% of bacteria seems unbelievable doesn’t it? But e-cloth has all the science behind this which you can read all about over on their website here.

I did ask e-cloth about what you do with the cloths once they wear out and at the moment you will have to throw them away but they are hoping that they will be able to be recycled in the future with TerraCycle and this is being looked into. All cloths come with a 3 year guarantee and they are hoping most will last a customer far longer than this which means you will be reusing for years to come and reducing a lot of waste (kitchen roll, wipes etc) as well as reducing the need to buy cleaning products in plastic bottles.

Washing The Cloths

The company advises that you wash your e-cloth weekly and they say that each cloth should last 300 washes but some of my readers were concerned about the micro-plastics that may be released from the micro-fibres into the water system. E-cloth state this:

“We are aware that our customers may have some concerns about fibre loss.

We have had our cloths laboratory tested and the percentage of fibre loss is minute over the lifetime of an e-cloth, especially compared to clothing items such as fleeces and of course there are other environmental issues such as micro-bead and plastic bottles in the ocean. We believe that the environmental and health plusses derived from using our cloths far outweigh the negatives.

We take any fibre loss seriously and we are working with our factories to eliminate this completely. In the meantime, we recommend using a Guppy Friend washing bag http.guppyfriend.com when washing your cloths and indeed any garment or item made from man-made fibre. The Guppy Friend is proven to collect any microscopic fibres from all textile products during washing.”

Overall Thoughts of E-Cloth

Well, I think it is safe to say that I was completely blown away by every product I was sent to review and am still cleaning my home like crazy because it is just so quick, simple and fun to clean without having to think about using extra products on top. My home looks clean, the results really speak for themselves in the photos here, don’t you think? I am over the moon that I can clean my home in such a natural way which will not only help the environment but also our health and our pets’ too.
