DCby1 campaign, why getting your baby to a dentist is vital

DCby1 Campaign- Why Getting Your Baby to the Dentist is Vital

The DCby1 (dental check by one) Campaign was launched by the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry in September to encourage all babies to be taken to the dentist for their first dental check by the age of one. This is a campaign that I feel very strongly towards due to the research I uncovered whilst writing my book Your Teething Baby: from one parent to another. I was shocked to read from the NHS that one of the main causes for a child to be admitted to hospital is down to tooth decay and that in a survey of five-year-olds carried out in 2012 it was found that more than one in four had some degree of tooth decay. These facts are shocking and one of the main reasons I believe they are happening is down to a lack of knowledge of the teeth and how to care for them.

what to look for in a school

What To Look For In a School

It is that time of year when parents are stepping into unknown territory, checking out school websites, working out if catchments areas mean anything anymore and questioning which school will be the best for their darling child. The difference this year is that this directly affects me too! I have already seen the lists of open days, been asked where he is going by family members and mentally debated with myself over not putting down our catchment school as an option. The thing is none of us first-timers really know what we are supposed to be doing.

Will My Breastfeeding Journey Be Different With My Next Child?

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how this baby will differ from my first and one of the biggest questions I have is whether I will find the breastfeeding journey the same? With Jake, I had no issues. Once I was ready to hold him after my c-section, the midwife placed him just below my breast and Jake quickly snuffled around and moved himself to my nipple and happily began to feed. I often heard stories from other Mums

17 Ways To Ensure You Don’t Feel Down as a Stay at Home Mum

Leaving your 9-5 daily grind once you have children can seem like the dream choice. You’ve probably spent years wishing you didn’t have to commute to work, thinking how lovely it would be to get all those jobs done around the house, staying on top of the chores and spending coffee breaks in a cafe whilst chatting with friends. Oh, how the imagination can run away with you! In reality, you can actually feel quite down as a stay at home Mum. It can be very lonely, much harder work than any job you’ve ever had, some days you will completely feel as though you are living in Groundhog day and at times, it can leave you feeling isolated.

the sods laws of parenting

The Sod’s Laws of Parenting

If you are a parent you would have most probably noticed by now that some things happen in patterns. Patterns that don’t tend to go well for you or ones that make your life that little more challenging and most of these patterns can be explained by one teeny force of nature… your children. Isn’t parenting fun?! I like to call these patterns the sod’s laws of parenting and here are some examples of the most common ones:

Is It Time To Reduce The Summer Holidays?

I don’t really remember how I felt as a child during the summer holidays. I know my Mum always tried to fit in fun activities to keep us entertained and we would have a holiday but as a young child, those memories of how I felt have all gone. So, as a first time Mum this is my first experience of having a child off school, well pre-school, for the holidays and the whole experience has made me question whether it is time to reduce the summer holidays?

With a new baby on the way we felt it was time to put some focus onto Jake. We decided the best way to do this was to update his bedroom before we begin on the new nursery.
