‘Your Teething Baby’ sneak peek

I wanted to give you a little sneak peek of my book Your Teething Baby, from one parent to another, to help you to understand what it covers and how it can benefit you. Here are some of the sections and snippets for you to enjoy.

Introduction:

(A snippet of the intro)

Why Teething?
From the moment that you discover you are pregnant you find yourself inundated with information. This ranges from how long you may get morning sickness for, to what to expect at your scan, what products you should be buying and reading many pregnancy books; as well as taking in every bit of advice you possibly can from those who have been there before. We attend antenatal classes to prepare for the birth and once baby is here there is support from midwives and health visitors. You find out all about breastfeeding, bottle feeding, nappy changes, weight gains or weight losses and postnatal depression; all of which is vital information when becoming a parent – especially if it’s your first time. I, however, feel that one area is overlooked and for some families it is a very big milestone which can take over both yours and your baby’s life………… Teething.

Why TV isn’t always a problem

How many times do you read headlines on social media: Turn off the TV and gadgets and do more activities with your child OR Why our children are becoming addicted to TV OR TV is the new babysitter? TV for kids is a problem. But is it?

Being A New Parent

Before having a child I would have thought exactly the same way, but then I had never seen CBeebies or any of the new kid’s TV shows. I was at work full time and hadn’t been around kids very much. When Jake came to the age of starting to want to watch TV his first love was (unfortunately) ‘Peppa Pig’… it became the biggest pain in my day, the theme tune along with the bing bong song – anybody else singing this in their sleep then as soon as you wake up?!! However, over this last year I, have noticed how much he actually relates back to her. He remembers the episodes and the activities they carry out and it’s made me come to realise how many words he has probably learnt from it.

Toddler Tantrums? The Solution is Actually Simple

Toddler tantrums are all fun and games, aren’t they?! We have been through the pre-stages of the well-known ‘terrible two’s’ but just recently everything has cranked up a notch. For me, it came as a bit of a shock with Jake going from a frustrated little one who maybe had a tantrum once in a while, usually related to my lack of understanding what he needed, to being a crazed tiny being who I didn’t recognise anymore! The first phase of this- prior to turning 2 – didn’t last too long and as he was so small he was easily calmed and also, being a boy, he didn’t have the attention span to make it last much longer than 30 seconds!

baby asleep for bath book and bed campaign

Bath, book and bed?

Supernanny, Jo Frost is launching a new campaign to help the nation get their sleep with her bath, book and bed campaign. This means starting with the kiddie winkles getting their well-needed sleep which will, in turn, lead to adults being able to get to bed at a decent hour. We all know that most parents have sleepless nights and most of us (me definitely!) are not getting as much shut-eye as we need.

7 skills I have mastered since becoming a parent!

I thought that all of the skills I had pre-baby were pretty good (and of course I had all the time I needed to do them in). I could clean my house to practically an OCD standard, tend to my garden and keep it immaculate, spend hours walking and caring for my dog, make detailed plans for life and multi-task at work. None of these are any good once a kid comes along – that perfect home and garden certainly aren’t!! There is less time, things are a little more hectic and it is all now upped a speed in order to get it all done! Parenting skills are a far cry from your usual work skills and these involve a pinch of organisation, a dollop of multi-tasking, plenty of speed and a dash of winging it!

The Importance of Getting Kids Gardening

Gardening, for me, has developed into a big hobby over the last 5 years or so. Once you get the bug for it, it can become so therapeutic, fun, can capture your imagination and allow you to start designing. I am a novice and definitely still have a lot to learn, but that should not stop anybody from starting up, even if you only have a few pots.
