Just the other day my sister said to me, ‘You’re not as stressy as you were the first time around’ and she is completely right. I’m not. It is very different when you have the second child. Yes, I am exhausted, yes I still lose my shit but I don’t get worked up in the same way as I did as a first time Mum and I certainly don’t over the same things. You see, I have learnt a very important lesson in the (almost) last 5 years, that sometimes you just need to let it go.

Yes, I said it. Christmas. I’m not usually one to say it quite so early but what with numerous birthdays beforehand (as well as one on the day itself!) I have decided that this year is the year I get organised and on the ball well in advance. As a busy Mum of 2 now, I can’t leave it all to the last minute anymore and I don’t want to be rushing around when we could be enjoying the run-up to the big day by visiting Grottos, going to Christmas Fayres or even to one of the many stunning winter wonderlands that are on in our area.

As you know, a teething baby is hard work at bedtime. The pain tends to wake them more often, their ears can ache when laid down, nappy rash can make turning over uncomfortable and you will certainly know about it if a tooth decides to cut in the early hours! It’s tough. I am experiencing it all over again and it is just as bad the second time around. However, what I can help with is getting them off to sleep to start with. I’m not saying it’s going to work for all babies, I’m not saying it’s going to happen each and every night but what it should do is help both of you to relax in the run-up to bedtime, it should help your baby to cope better with that teething pain and it should hopefully help to keep your routine and settle them more easily.
