What Are The Benefits of Yoga?

*Collaborative Post

Yoga emanated from India over 5000 years ago. It focuses on flexibility, strength and breathing. Yoga practitioners do so by forming postures (a series of movements sometimes called asanas) and concentrating on their breathing. It’s an ancient practice that has since filtered out across the world. It has spawned revered leaders, committed acolytes and countless variations over the years.

How And Why Home Yoga Has Been Such A Benefit To Me

Just before we went into lockdown, I’d been considering taking up a yoga class. Having had back problems for years now and feeling exasperated by the differing opinions of chiropractors, I felt I needed to do something myself. But just as I was doing some searches of local classes, everything shut down due to covid and I was left really disheartened. But then I discovered Yoga with Adriene online and I began to attempt and actually really enjoy learning yoga at home. If you haven’t heard of Adriene, she is a truly fantastic yoga teacher. Not only is her voice calming and reassuring but she has a video for almost every possible ache, pain, bodily issue you have plus she has them at differing levels. It feels as though she really guides you through your yoga journey by offering alternative moves, telling you to ease off if needs be, explaining what your body should be feeling and what to do if it just doesn’t feel quite right to you. I have found her online sessions to be something I look forward to doing and now I try to regularly get yoga into my week. Home yoga has brought quite a few benefits to me which I thought I would quickly share with you today.

why exercise during pregnancy is important

Why Exercise During Pregnancy Is Important

Gone are the days of taking it easy, sitting back with your feet up and eating for two… New research shows that none of this is good for either Mother or baby. I probably did way too much of all of this during my first pregnancy which led to weight gain and a longer recovery from my emergency c-section. I found that my lack of strength really had a knock-on effect on my energy levels, on my core returning to its original state and I was at the heaviest I had ever been. It took me around a year to feel able to return to exercise after an unsuccessful attempt at 6 months which would lead to severe abdominal pain after each class for a few days after. I just wasn’t ready.

SpeedBump Maternity Activewear Review

*Gifted Items

Staying fit and healthy during this pregnancy was something I had decided upon even before I fell with this little guy. I wouldn’t say that my first pregnancy was unhealthy but I wasn’t partaking in any exercise classes and I really did use being pregnant as an excuse to take things easy. This all changed after he was born and I have been actively going to workout classes since Jake was about a year old so my fitness and strength have both increased in the last 3 years. This has meant that since finding out I was expecting with baby number 2 I haven’t had to alter my usual workouts of using kettlebells, Barbells, Bulgarian bags, TRX and other activities within my HIIT classes because my body is used to the level I have been working at. However, as my shape began to change and my bump began to grow I found that trying to find comfortable activewear clothing was a huge challenge. It is always tricky at the start when the bump isn’t quite big enough for over the bump clothing but is too big for normal clothes, isn’t it? There is rarely anything in-between available on the market and I discovered how restricting this can become for those who want to keep fit during their pregnancy.
